I second the idea of Colonel Parker, though I suppose in WWE he would be known as Tennessee O'Reilly. also I liked the 'Nam reference in Dutch's promo, cause it made me think of this Actually, he was Tennessee Lee when he was Jeff Jarrett's manager briefly in the Attitude Era. At the same time, he pretty much killed Serotonin (Raven leading a cult of Matt Bentley, Frankie Kazarian and I think Johnny Devine), because he didn't understand the gimmick, and in doing so pulled the plug on what could have been an awesome stable. I'm digging him here, but he wasn't the greatest booker in the world.

As someone who began really following the product in '96, am I alone is immediately recognizing him as Zeb, and then later remembering he was Dutch Mantell?

Nope, apparently they did get it from Ann Coulter, then just changed the name. Where has it been confirmed that's where they got the name? Since she's famous I can see where people think its based off her but there is no reason to change the name if it is. In the 2000 census there were 20,252 people using the Coulter version in the US to just 3,436 with the Colter version WWE is using. I also find it peculiar they went with the lesser known national version in Nashville where that version is well known due to Waylon Jennings' famous wife making the name a household name in the area around the time Dutch was in his 20's also living not to far from Nashville. Site I read it on says they got it from PWInsider.

I didn't watch RAW this week, but I did see fellow poster Jimmy's sig and did a double take. If you told me Dutch Mantel would be on WWE television in 2013, I wouldn't believe you. Either way I'm glad Dutch is back on TV.

I was in a record store today and I overheard this exchange between 2 of the employees:
Man #1: Did you see see Raw last night? Man #2: No I DVR'd it but haven't watched it yet, but I heard Dutch Mantell showed up. #1: Yeah he came out with Swagger. #2: Let me guess he had a different name. What crappy name did the WWE give him? #1: Zebekiah Coulter #2: Vince McMahon is ruining my life.
I will point out that I live in Memphis where Dutch is a legend, but I loved that changing a name ruins that guys life.

Cannot remember the last time I heard a wrestling conversation in public around here.

Dutch/Zeb is great on the mic. He's good with comedy too, which makes me want wacky backstage skits with him and Swagger even though the gimmick is serious right now. What makes this even better, besides the randomness and the increased value of my signed Dutch Mantel trading card, is that in kayfabe Zeb is one of the last guys Swagger should want as a manager. He managed JBL when he lost thrice to Freddy Joe Floyd, and I don't think Blu Bros ever won a tag title in WWE. Swagger should also change his theme song to "My Waterpark" by Eric Cartman.

I guess that's one of the issues with Vinnie Mac being the head of WWE. He's 68.

They should bring back some more older experienced guys as managers. Punk has benefitted greatly from Heyman. Swagger will from Dutch.

At first I thought he was Bill DeMott. I'm not really familiar with Dutch, other than recognising the name for his work with the TNA knockouts.
He gave a great, old fashioned, heel promo which was nice to hear (not the content obviously!). Hopefully this will help take Swagger to the next level, although I'm curious how long he'll be around for. Is it a full time thing? It really did come out of nowhere, which I love as that's so rare these days. There wasn't even the regular "X may be getting a manager" story, he just appeared on RAW and took a lot of sites by surprise. Love it.

Speaking of Col. Robert Parker/Tennessee Lee (as some of you have), if memory serves he used to team with and later manager the man who played Jack Swagger's dad (Jimmy Golden/Bunkhouse Buck).

Something worth mentioning about his promo is how he didn't allow the crowd to "what" him when they started trying to. He just went straight through the promo without pausing and and letting them ruin it. A great example of why to give guys managers who aren't completely comfortable talking.

I work with a guy who is rocking Zeb's facial hair. And most of my workshop shares his viewpoint. It made last November very uncomfortable.

I've been watching wrestling for 20 years and had no idea who he was at first. Me either. No clue at all.

But by the end, they were booing Zeb. That's part of why I'm not all that worried about this gimmick: anyone who'd be of that political persuasion will probably start booing the piss out of Swagger and Colter as soon as he questions their patriotism. I'm really interested to see where it goes post-Del Rio feud.

I have this image in my mind of him getting backstage and saying "THAT'S how you get heat boys"!

I had a funny thought about Mantel. I remember him seeming relatively small to me. He seemed like one of those people who'd get scrawny when he got older to me. Once of the hardest parts of recognizing him for me was I wasn't expecting him to be so heavy set
