Relating to the subject and for fun, what's everyone's favorite trap per movie? For me:
1 - Jaw Splitter 2 - Needle Pit 3 - Rack 4 - Knife Chair 5 - Pendulum 6 - Steam Maze 7 - Garage/Car Trap

Cool idea for a top ten. I have a hard time putting one together, I'll think it over.

It's weird I don't really put much emphasis on the traps. Maybe because so much of the violence is CG, or the way they shot it it just didn't have much of a visceral impact on me. They're just... not memorable in many cases. I couldn't really begin to make a list of my favorite, though the most creative has to be death by drowning in pig guts.

The traps are cool but for me the plot, characters and twists are what most draw me to the series. But the traps definitely have appeal. Particularly in the early films since they had an organic quality to them.

Not a bad top ten, I like most of those.
I already posted my ranking of the movies on the first page (2 1 6 5 4 7 and 3).

I only put an emphasis on the traps when they actually are not only clever but have an actual purpose...which is why I have no love for any of the traps in Saw 4.

I wish I understood why 3D was so hated, it was a love letter to the fans when you look at it and featured a character in Bobby that you really learned to love to pull for. My Film list then would be
Saw Saw VI Saw V Saw 3D Saw II Saw IV Saw III

Understandable, I dig the Mausoleum because that was the first time we saw that idea play out, but I'm with you. Give me a simple trap which moved the story along in a compelling way over the one's with the huge set-ups. I also like those which show human nature (hence Carousel higher than you)

It just was not needed to me the movie had one purpose for it being made and that was to reveal a "mystery" everyone had already pieced together and something that should have been revealed in the previous movie. And thats the other thing Saw 6 ended the series perfectly. we got 2 trilogies. The First 3 which some call the Jigsaw trilogy others call it the amanda trilogy. Saw 4,5,6 being dubbed the Hoffman trilogy. By the end of saw 6 everything was fine it ended on a high note everything came full circle..what questions were left were inonsequential because all the big story arcs were wrapped up.

Saw VII I think works better when watched with 6, because together the two do help to fill in the major open gaps and wrap up most of the loose ends.
I recall on the writers' commentary for 7 that the writers mention Saw 7 and 8 were to happen but when 6 underperformed at the box office then the two got combined into one movie. You can certainly tell :/

Fair enough and entirely understandable. I guess I kinda look to 3D as an epiloge more so than a final chapter even though that's what it was called. I guess I just get caught up a ton in character stories and individual arcs more than the big picture since that all seemed pretty laid out to me after 4, with the random Jill stuff in there, and I think that allowed me to get more into character stories like Strahm and Dagen. And yeah, you can tell big plot stuff was definitely rushed in 3D, no doubt.

You can tell Saw 3D was not made to do anything beyond simply milk what they assumed was what was left in the franchise. Gave everyone {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Dr Gordon and then threw in the most obsurd traps they could think of.

Yeah, 7 wasn't the best series finale for sure :/ The series went on for as long as it did and that was the best way they could end it.

I'm glad so many people like the Angel Trap. That's my favorite too. I remember watching the movie and going "There's no way she could of survived that! Way to undercut your own franchise!"
I was so, SO happy when this turned out to be really important.

Forgot to ask but did anyone ever play the two Saw video games? I only played the first one and it was pretty good, despite some annoying puzzles and the poor combat system. It ties into the films pretty neatly and does a cool job of filling in the gaps as to what happened in between the first two movies. I really want to play the second one.

My biggest gripe with 7 is that it failed in even delivering the cool traps/torture porn aspect that the series was known for by then. The blood was probably some of the most fake shit I've ever seen (ditto for the dismembered bodies), and the actual traps were so absurd and over complex that it was comical. The car trap was more like something from mouse trap.
