According to the New York Daily News, MLB officials "hope to know by Monday" if Alex Rodriguez will accept a deal for his role in the Biogenesis case.
That deal, according to various reports, would leave A-Rod with a suspension that covers the remainder of the 2013 season and all of 2014. If the veteran third baseman does not accept that sentence and instead tries to fight for something lesser, he could wind up with a lifetime ban.

I'd still like to know why Alex Rodriguez's use of PED's is so much worse than everyone else's that he'd get from a year and a half suspension to a lifetime ban for a first time offense. Remember that the first failed drug test from the early 00's doesn't count towards this as it was supposed to be confidential (and A-Rod's name was the only name leaked) and done before MLB had an official policy on PED punishment.
Is attempting to obstruct the investigation worth that much of a bump between 50-100 game suspension to talk of a lifetime ban? Or is this just Bud Selig on a power trip trying to save face for his tarnished legacy?

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Athletics are "off" Jake Peavy and "moving onto other pursuits."
Rays acquired RHP Jesse Crain from the White Sox for players to be named later or cash considerations.

Yeah, well, there's celebrating, then there's being a huge f***ing dickhole. I'm pretty sure this falls into the latter category. Speaking of dickholes... I did a double take when I saw this. I know Phil Hughes is terrible and all, but damn, David Ortiz could appreciate this level of douchery,

Accidentally clicked on the MLP thread instead of this one since it was right above it... Anyway, another former Cubs pitcher Geremi Gonzalez was killed by a lightning strike on May 25, 2008. My birthday. Always liked Castillo, terrible way to go.

My birthday. Always liked Castillo, terrible way to go. He was a great guy and a much better pitcher than his record indicated. Cared about the fans and loved interacting with us, and didn't take his status as an MLB player for granted. Baseball needs more guys like Frank. He was one of the really good ones.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Cubs' asking price for Jeff Samardzija is sky high. Didn't know he was currently available, even though everyone really is. Guarantee Theo wants a top 5 overall prospect and more. He isn't going anywhere, but if they think he's going to want #1 money in an extension, trading him now might be smart.
