Are Uruguay really that good considering they finished 5th in South American qualifying having to play Jordan to get to the world cup? Based on attacking alone, they might just be the best in the World. They have the big three of Forlan, Cavani and Suarez and other attackers like Rodriguez are pretty good too. Defensively though, they're not very good. The best comparison I can make is that they're similar to Liverpool from this season. Their attack can score for fun but the defence is not the most reliable. Plus they had to qualify through the playoffs for 2010, becoming the last team to qualify, then they reached the semi finals. I would say also because they are from South America and will be used to the climate that they will be more prepared than most teams. Anyway I would give Brazil the edge as favourites even though the pressure on them is sure to be intense. Spain, Argentina, Germany & Holland are also big favourites but both Spain & Holland have a hard group in together with Chile & Australia. France have a easier group so you would expect them to maybe advance quite far, well if they have grown up a bit.

Can England win the World Cup? Let's ask... Professor Stephen Hawking?
Well, that's that.

Looks like Liverpool are on the verge of signing Rickie Lambert for £4m. I'm not his biggest fan but we do need cover for Suarez and Sturridge and although he's getting on a bit, 4 million is a good deal.

Still decent value though, he's a proven goal scorer at this level.

As you say though, even an £8m price tag is decent value.

And subject to a medical tomorrow, Lambert is off to Liverpool for £4m plus add-ons.
From now on, this thread will be for domestic discussion only.

Eleven scored their first win in club history, a 5-2 beatdown of USL Pro's Dayton in the Open Cup, and scoring a match against Columbus in June. I'm hoping this translates to some success in NASL play... I want us to beat San Antonio tomorrow night.

Frank Lampard has apparently signed for New York City. I hope for his sake they've not heard about him drunkenly abusing American tourists the day after 9/11.

Playing in the North American or Australian leagues is like retiring to Florida for aging pros.

Eleven close out their home portion of the spring season with another loss.
Looks like we'll have to wait until August for NASL's worst team to score their first league win. But at least we care a lot for our last-place team.

I'm not sure what's more hilarious, the media trying to run stories of Cesc to Man Utd, City, Liverpool and Chelsea or the fact that anyone's believing them.
If Fabregas comes back to England he will only go to one team and I would bet my house on that.

Ozil, Wilshire, Cazorla, and Ramsey have ably filled the gap he left behind, and they have far more pressing requirements elsewhere in the team.

Ramsey, Ozil and Wilshere were all injured at the same time a couple of months ago and we basically collapsed. We do need more depth. Arsene and Cesc have a father/son bond and still regularly communicate, Arsene told Cesc to give it one more year last summer. We have the buyback clause and Cesc has always said since he was 16 and reiterated regularly it's only Barcelona and Arsenal for him. The only other place I ever see him going is Bayern to follow his idol Pep Guardiola, but they need him even less than we do.

I don't think depth is really an issue in that department - no team could really expect to lose it's three most creative players at the same time. It all depends on whether the notoriously tight-fisted Wenger is willing to blow a huge hole in his transfer budget for a luxury player, especially in the light of the rumour that they've already told Barca "no thanks". Kallstrom has gone, but he plays a different position and a different type of game altogether. Arteta isn't a natural holding midfielder, which really just leaves Flamini as your only natural player in that position since Diaby seems to be on the way out. On top of that you need a top-class right-back, a good #2 goalkeeper, and a world class centre-forward. £30m on Fab doesn't seem like good business, and I would not be surprised if he wound up at Liverpool.

Australia's got their 23 now, surprisingly axing two of the veterans in the team in Kennedy (a back injury flared up late) and Wilkshire in the process.
Goalkeepers: Ryan, Galekovic, Langerak Defenders: Franjic, Davidson, Spiranovic, Wright, Wilkinson, McGowan Midfielders: Jedinak (c), Milligan, Holland, Luongo, Bozanic, McKay, Bresciano Forwards: Cahill, Vidosic, Oar, Troisi, Halloran, Taggart, Leckie
Remember those names, as you'll be seeing them in upcoming Spanish, Dutch and Chilean highlights montages.

CESC!
Excited about this for sure. He's such a massive upgrade over Ramires and old-Lamps. Can't wait to see Cesc, Oscar, Hazard, and Costa on the pitch at the same time. With the best defense in the EPL behind them.
