Ok I must ask what drugs were they smoking when they castled Ben Affleck as batman. They were smoking money they made off Ledger as the Joker, the last guy who was sh*t upon by nerds as a bad casting decision. They made a lot of it. A LOT.Oh, come on. We all know we all went to see TDK to see Tiny Zeus Lister save the day at the end. And one more thing, before anyone brings up Ledger and that thing, YET AGAIN, that's The Joker. Affleck is playing Batman, and Batman is the most boring mutherf***er in that universe. The Robins and Batgirls have more interesting stories than Bats. Nearly every member of the rouges gallery has much more interesting and sympathetic back stories, stregths and weaknesses than Batman does, especially modern "I'm so perfect and loved by writers, even in an alternate evil reality, I'm the sole person who stays so righteous and pure and beats everyone with a Batstick" Batman. Plus, once again, Zack Snyder is still directing this.

I would actually debate him being too big a star to play Batman. It didn't hurt The Avengers, and nearly all of the top billed cast (save for maybe Hiddleston and Hemsworth) were all pretty damn popular. And at least two of them, Jackson and RDJ, had over 20 years under their belts and "played themselves" to a degree in recent years.
Also, Daredevil was ten years ago. I think we can give the guy a chance.

Then again who would have thought Robert Downey Jr. would do so well as Stark... Robert Downey Jr playing a man who is seen as brilliant but is affected by his own demons and vices to get that full potential, and who rises from the ashes to reinvent himself for the better? Yeah, no one saw that working out.... No, Mr Bad Sarcasm. Many people thought it was his last chance saloon and it was a hell of risk for the studio to entrust an AAA role to someone with his track record.

And while I get that (as that was why I put in the affected by his own vices part), I just remember people having a Keanu meme moment where it just made sense in casting. I mean, I understand that aspect where he was in recovery, but it there wasn't like a "The guy who played the weird best friend from 'Back to School" is Iron Man?!" feeling, like a lot of the uproars in comic book casting.

The Heath Ledger argument is weak.
The massive backlash people are talking about when he was cast as the Joker is over blown.
The only people complaining about it at the time were homophobic morons who were upset that a "gay cowboy" actor was cast as The Joker.
It didn't matter that he was great in Brokeback Mountain it sucked because of gay.

It didn't matter that he was great in Brokeback Mountain it sucked because of gay. And the fact is that Ledger's career was still very much in its beginning stages. He was just breaking out from doing teen flicks so his potential as an actor hadn't been fully seen. Same for Keaton, he had only done a few comedies so we hadn't seen him in a drama at all. Affleck, on the other hand - we've seen his full breadth as an actor. Comedy, drama, action, superhero - he's much later in his career than other examples people are talking about as counter examples to people being upset about casting choices. I still say Affleck would crush - seriously kill it - in a Booster Gold film. Like, not ironically. As Batman, hopefully he'll surprise us all, but based on the many various roles he's done, I don't see it. The Town, Argo, I could easily see these in his wheel house. Bats....I dunno. But the instances with ledger and Keaton were very different circumstances than what's going on here.

Without going through 9 pages of this thread can anybody sum up the reasons why Affleck will make a bad Batman/Bruce Wayne other than just....because Ben Affleck? I watched that video above and I still don't get it. I thought everyone had moved on from the early 2000s Affleck hate? What should be of more concern is that they're keeping Snyder on, a man who I don't think has directed a 'great' film yet. That's what was so annoying about the video. She's bitching about movies from 10 years ago.

This is just an op-ed piece merely posing the question. What's proven is that Man of Steel made 650 million dollars worldwide. That's fact. The film was budgeted at 175 million, but looks like it went over by 25-50 million dollars. So let's go real high on that and say it was 225 million dollars. They more than doubled that cost. You're telling me that that's not good enough? And you're using an inquisitive article that merely asks, with no proof whatsoever? I could just as easily say that Warner Brothers is just fine with the film, probably knew that they would have to prove to moviegoers that the movie wouldn't suck like the last 2 before it, and are banking on Superman vs. Batman being the billion dollar film they hoped for. I'm not a dick, though. I'm just merely asking how they could be upset with that take. You forget marketing costs, which never is added to the budget. Though, that could have been offset by the adspace in the film, but still... Ad budget was reportedly $150m, which was offset by the $160m in promotional tie-ins.

When I think Batman, I think: Badass When I think Ben Affleck, I think: Shmuck And for the record, counselor, I am pretty open minded and there is a chance that Affleck nails it. It is a damn shame that Clint Eastwood has never had the chance at Batman. That would be nailing it, but like 40 years too late.

I don't believe I've ever seen a Ben Affleck movie, but I'm willing to at least give the dude a chance. When you think about it, who would've ever thought Beetlejuice would've worked out as Batman?
Give it a chance, internet.

I'll watch. I'm a batman fan. But I am not a fan of Ben Afleck. I will give him credit for making some good films. I will also deride him for making some bad ones. Every actor has a few films or roles that did not go as planned. But the one thing that cannot be denied is, he makes money. This has already created a huge buzz for the film. It is as good as viral marketing. It's free. Bad press you say? Sure, but again it is FREE advertising. It is a Batman. Comic fans will go see it because it is batman vs freaking superman...or a team up or something.

I guess I don't really get what all the fuss is about. Dude seems to be an alright actor (granted, I haven't seen many of his movies), so I think he'll be alright. All I hope is that Man of Steel 2 is actually good.

I can see him as Batman, but not as Bruce Wayne.
Which is a good thing as it was the exact opposite with Bale.
