Would be better if Hugh Laurie had stayed as the villain

I hope that some day, movie studios realize that not all "bad-ass" heroes have to dress in solid black, even when the original designs are colorful and unique.

It doesn't look too bad to me actually. Does it look faithful to Robobcop? Hell nah, but come on guys, let's face it, few remakes are ever going to be faithful to the original film. We have over a decade of f***ing evidence to support this. So I think we really, really, REALLY need to stop hoping remakes will be faithful to the originals.
So that being said, as a stand alone film, by itself, without comparing it to the original at all. It looks decent. At the worst it looks completely generic sci-fi action. It looks to have one hell of a supporting cast with Keaton, Oldman, and Samuel L., so at the very least, the film might have decent enough acting to make it a passable rental/matinee showing/dollar theatre experience. And I say this because I am damn sure that whoever made this wasted the talents of the three aforementioned actors and thus we'll only get decent performances out of them. With those three, even when they phone it in for a paycheck, they still at least give entertaining performances. So realistically what will make or break this film is their total screen time. The less time those 3 are on screen, the bigger chance this has of being utterly forgettable and generic.

Is it so hard to actually know one or two things about a source material before you go into it? That they have full reign to crap on the stories they invested so much money to license for this in the first place is okay cause "well, they're gonna screw us anyway, so just accept it". Hell, for all the crap The Last Airbender gets, you can at least tell that's what it is trying to be, a Last Airbender movie. This thing, from the production to the leaked script, to the turmoil and problems, and now the trailer just shows it's not trying to be a Robocop movie. Hell, it's not even trying to be a Robocop: Prime Directives!

It doesn't look awful. Just generic.
Shiny, shiny everywhere.
I'll go see it as I go see most films that appear in the cinema. I don't have particularly high hopes beyond it being a decent action film though.

Hell, it's not even trying to be a Robocop: Prime Directives! Because, look at World War Z(surprisingly good zombie film, awful adaptation). That should pretty much explain how the bulk of adaptations and remakes work. They aren't licensing the story, they are essentially just licensing the name and the characters(and even then we are lucky if they keep the characters), maybe the basic premise/setting/structure. After that, they do whatever the hell they please.

Putting aside the issues with it not being Robocop, it's just not good. And if it's enough to just have a generic sci fi movie, what stops anyone from just watching the many other generic sci fi movies, or even one of the good sci fi movies?

It's going to be interesting when at some point this idea of banking on so many formerly popular franchises to make money completely turns consumers off.

I watched the trailer and didn't enjoy it. One thing that kept coming to mind was the thought that it seemed to "clean".

Using Samuel L Jackson as an indicator of quality hasn't held up as an argument since about 1997

Thank goodness his helmet flips up so we can see the actors face, his contract must have called for that or it was a studio mandate.
I will not watch this with euphoric bliss.

I hope that some day, movie studios realize that not all "bad-ass" heroes have to dress in solid black, even when the original designs are colorful and unique. The trailer seems to imply he won't look like that the whole film. Some of the action scenes, he is in silver, after all. Honestly? I am pleasantly surprised by the trailer. He really does look a lot closer to the old body than I was thinking that they'd go, just now he won't walk like he shit his pants.

I just checked. For anyone worrying this will damage Robocop's legacy or something, remember this: He has had 7 movies already. 3 theatrical releases, 4 as episodes for a TV series, but feature length. Think like Cumberbatch's Sherlock.
He has had a regular TV series, in live action, that went to 20 something episodes.
He has had at least 2 animates series.
He helped Sting get out of a cage and stole a fridge in a commercial.
What could Hollywood possibly do to cheapen or damage this as a franchise, when virtually anything the film could do would actually be a step up from most anything after 2?

The trailer looked lame but I'm fair enough to give it a chance by watching at the movies if it is given a theatrical release in my neck of the woods.
