The Rock also called both Mankind and Paul Wight retards at one or more points between Foley's first title win and WrestleMania XV.

When I read "Big Red Retard" I think of retard strength. Like DAMN Kane is strong.

We now have an openly gay professional wrestler, and not only is his sexual preference not a big deal, he's a face and people seem to be getting behind him.Heh.

I'm usually one of those who get annoyed at PC-ness, but I'm not all that bothered about not being able to use the world "retard" freely. I'd rather save my rage for something else like taking away soccer balls from soccer. So essentially, your problem with PC culture isn't the actual things we're trying to stop, but the absurdist parodies people create of PC culture? I can live with that. I didn't realize that story was not real. Now I feel like an idiot...

I didn't realize that story was not real. Now I feel like an idiot... Don't feel bad. The fact that it was even on the line of satire means there's some plausibility to it. We're very used to the concept of taking the competitiveness out of school/kids sports in order to preserve feelings. On that issue, screw that, kids need to learn how to overcome adversity, and it's not anything remotely personal. That's a different kind of issue but they are similar in their goal, and happening concurrently.

At the same time though, within education itself competitiveness and striving for scholarships is even more cut-throat these days. Economic climate + Univeristy costs rising higher than any cost of living etcetera. Plus, I mean, I know I'm not in school or college now, but to get into football/basketball teams like I did you really do need to be one of the better players or else you're never picked, thus people often trained harder to beat people, or else it was ultimately wasted private/personal time. Within lessons I honestly don't see the problem with friendlier things because the after-school stuff is always more competitive and based in training and such so I often asked out of sports/PE lessons in school time to work on art/music/theatre studies (which are all as valuable as my physical fitness, if not more so in developing rhythm for aspects of fitness too...plus work), but then trained with the school/college teams after and that benefited me a lot. I was still a competitive bastard of course but looking online (at least in the UK, I can't speak for the US or anywhere else so apologies on that) that's how the system still stands. The newer generations often don't get an easier time, I mean IQs on average are getting higher every decade, it's not that tests are easier; it's that people are smarter, more well adjusted, and more open to seeing multiple ways of living within our odd (and outdated, but that's a different discussion) rigid society BECAUSE of the positives of political correctness. It's often used as a right wing aimless definitionless attack on anyone who has a well thought out argument on why saying x, y, or z has a negative influence on those who easily follow rougher paths (like I did when I was a kid/teen, thankfully came out the other wise with scars and stories and awareness) or get forced into rougher paths through being derided by passive insulting language use. I mean, well, the latter is happening now in the UK with attacks on disabled people (and suicides going up through the hundreds of percent every month due to it and other things) and claims of "scroungers" against them so... You know, sorry for the rant, I didn't expect this post to go on so long but I think you're my favourite poster on these boards so a full ramble seemed respectful in a nice discussion. Anyway, I'll shut up now as I realise I'm straying into socio-political stuff I can't really go further into or risk a ban, so yes.

Shit no worries man. Great post, and I agree with everything you said.
Overall, I believe in political correctness, but I also understand where the anti-PC sentiment comes from and am sensitive to that as well, so I guess I'm trying to give both sides the benefit of the doubt. My father is a pretty politically incorrect guy, but I also think he's of the utmost moral fiber. He's just a 58 year old guy who has been around mostly straight white pepole in his life.
A problem I do have with PCness is when those who are fighting against labeling people fight back by...labeling. If you think x you are a "racist", if you insult someone and call them names you are a "bully". That doesn't mean those terms can never be used, but a lot of care and caution needs to go into labeling people those things as well.

I can't believe that some of you are defending the use of that word as an insult. It's about as acceptable as or tranny. EDIT: One of these is censored, the other is not. For shame, mods.

Well what adorably cute gif would replace tranny, a word that will never be in the same league of offense as n***** ?

Call a transexual (not a drag queen though, there's a difference) a tranny, and they will END you

If a clip of Bailey Jay replaced it I think I'd be saying 'tranny' in every post I made.
Also, I have to laugh at people complaining about not being able to use the word 'retard' any more, because if I don't laugh I think I'll kill myself.

I do have a mental disorder and I find the word offensive my boss called me that one day I told her it offended me and she apologized about it and we have been cool since then. There were other words they could have used but they went to that word instead of taking time to look for another

You can get across that a word is offensive without equating it to n*****. Trynna co-opt shit.

I remember going to a WWF house show in 1999 or so and there were some little kids sitting near me who kept talking about Kane being a "retard" and having his dick burned off (as X-Pac alluded to). They obviously had great parents...
Sadly, I know a guy in his 30's who still calls Kane the "big red retard". And he makes jokes about his burnt dick too.

At times it seems like the only acceptable form of insults is overly wordy, olde english.
Heel: Sir, I do say I quite dislike you. Face: For what reason, sir? Heel: It is my understanding that your views differ from my own! Face: Might you elaborate on such? Heel: I shant. Thereby, causing my anger to be illogical and set my place in stone as the "bad guy." Face: Very much so, and I as the "good guy." Shall take umbrage with such, and agree to fisticuffs. Have at you!

I remember X-Pac calling him that once.
But in hindsight, X-Pac was the retard, because he had sex with Chyna
