Throughout late 1999/ most of 2000, Kane, at times, is referred to as a "big red retard".
Um...why exactly? As a insult? Unfortunate implications and uncomfortableness aside...WHY?

Being around 11 years old I can tell you, that word was a big part of my lexicon.

Retard also wasn't quite as taboo of an insult as it is now.

Isn't that a pretty straightforward insult?

At the time he was a mindless oaf, The Xpac team up humanised him and gave him some character but he was still a dummy.
And people at the time used Retard to mean idiot/Moron whatever....Whuch fit Kane at that time

Because that was exactly the type of "more mature" content that came out of the Attitude era.

It was a simpler time, when people didn't overly PC everything and not every word was "evil" and "bullying"

"Big Red Person With An Intellectual Disability" is kind of a mouthful.

Retard also wasn't quite as taboo of an insult as it is now. We can't say retard? "I want a match with the Big Red Exceptional Individual" doesn't have the same roll off the tongue.

It was a simpler time, when people didn't overly PC everything and not every word was "evil" and "bullying" Amen. Nowadays you get flack for making a remark like Abraham Washington's "Kobe Joke" that, while funny, too many overly-PC elitists in this new-age of social media will bombard wwe.com and their corporate headquarters until somebody's head will roll. Despite TV-13 being the rating you really can't say a damn thing on TV anymore unless it's on AMC or HBO.

I knew this thread would come to this. Should we lock it now or do 5 pages of people fighting about being heels or just being awful?

Sorry, I just can't quite wrap my head around people complaining about not being able to call somebody with a disability 'retard' in an insulting manner.

I think people should be less sensitive, but I also think using words like retard or faggot is more lazy than anything. If you want to call someone stupid then call them stupid. Don't use something that doesn't mean what you're trying to convey. And if it's going to offend someone, why not just stop it?

"My retard!" they'll address one another. Before eating a gluestick.

For what it's worth I work with disabled people, and have for years and not one bit of this offends me. It's just wrestling being wrestling.

It was a simpler time, when people didn't overly PC everything and not every word was "evil" and "bullying" The words were just as unpleasant and bullying back then, make no mistake about it. It was just that the bullied groups didn't have enough of a voice to protest. And now that they do, it's somehow seen as a terrible thing that people don't get to act like complete gits to minorities.
