I think somebody here on FAN just completely made it up, and it surfaces now and then as if it's fact. It's older than that. I'd say I've heard it for at least 7-8 years. Well it's been going since the wrestlecrap days if that's what you mean. The whole basis of that rumor is that sleeping with Stephanie is something that would make Vince mad(even if there is zero evidence that Macho did it).

I remember hearing about the Steph rumor prior to Wrestlecrap even existing on the internet, so it definitely predates the site.

Lawler's story is bullshit, and I think he said the same thing in his book. I guess if you keep telling the same story over and over you start believing it yourself.

The Stephanie rumours most likely stemmed from this video in 2003. "Language" www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0nLzr4EDnQAlso if trips/vince actually saw that video then it's probably no wonder why Savage didn't come back...

The easiest to believe theory is a bundle of things, mainly centered around Macho leaving for WCW. Most claim that Vince was extremely sad and pissed that Macho left because he considered him a close friend and that he took the Slim Jim deal with it. He hurt him as both a friend and as a work colleague. I think that shook Vince a fair bit, before Macho as far as I'm aware everyone went to WCW with his blessing, Vince has always seemed to try to be just one of the boys when it came to his workers, he saw a lot of people he considered friends abandon him for a bigger paycheck, I think Macho was the breaking point. This post makes Vince sound like Michael Scott and that is hilarious to imagine.

Lawler's story is bullshit, and I think he said the same thing in his book. I guess if you keep telling the same story over and over you start believing it yourself. A lot of people have a tendency to embellish a bit when they tell a story. These same people also enhance the story a little bit more and more each time they tell it. I have heard close friends tell a story about something that happened when I was present and the story has mutated into something else in as little as five years due to this kind of thing. Also take into consideration that Jerry Lawler has done a lot of thing in his career in the past 20 or so years. What we vividly remember happening on TV was just another day at work for him. He may not necessarily be lying, but rather this is the way he remembers things happening.

I personally suspect part of it was a family thing for Savage. He may have wanted Vinve to toss his brother a bone and induct his dad into the HoF as a condition for coming back and Vince wasn't interested in either.
