Was Kane really billed as "Kane the Undertaker"? No, the Undertaker was billed as " Cain the Undertaker" for his first few singles matches. IIRC, I remember hearing that those were recorded prior to his Survivor Series debut, and that by the time he officially debuted, the "Cain" was already dropped. The only time I ever saw it spelled out on TV, it was "Kane The Undertaker". link

Batista debuted as Deacon Bautista, then a few weeks later the Deacon part was dropped and he was renamed Batista. Lance Cade debuted with his real name, then was renamed Garrison Cade, only to return to his real name when he returned with Trevor Murdoch in 2005. Umm, Lance Cade's real name was Lance McNaught. whoops, well you know I mean!

Was that ever official? I thought people just assumed it was spelt like that before it was revealed to be 'Colter' Nope. People just constantly (and still do to this day) misspelled it because of Anne Coulter. It's probably a freudian/subconscious typo. If that doesn't count, then he was called Zebekiah Colter (a nod to his previous run in WWE) the first time he showed up on Raw. By Smackdown, he was Zeb Colter.

They tried changing Christian's name this year to this: Michael McGillicutty? That sounds nothing like Christian. Sounds like a better fit for...I don't know, Curtis Axel perhaps?

Bubba Ray Dudley wrestled under his ECW-ised Buh Buh Ray Dudley for a while when he first came to the WWF before changing to 'Bubba'. Think he was actually on the first Smackdown video game as Buh Buh. I swear to god he debuted as "Bah Bah Ray Dudley". Snitsky debuted as Gene Snisky without the t. before he became Chief Morley, WWE phased out calling him Val Venis in favor of Val Venus and then just the Big Valbowski. not WWE but WCW briefly stopped calling him Lex Luger and just called him "The Total Package" like it was his name.

AJ, Naomi, and Jamie Keyes all had last names in FCW and when they filmed their NXT video packages, they left in the last names. Sometime after the packages were made but prior to airing them, someone made the decision to drop the last names of all 3 of these divas. Which was ridiculous since Jamie is way too common of a name to not have a last name, not to mention she was a ring announcer on NXT with a full name. A week after airing these, the packages were edited to take out the last names. Cole and Josh kept calling Jamie by her full name so they eventually just changed it back to that.
AJ would get her last name back when she became GM.

Batista debuted as Deacon Bautista, then a few weeks later the Deacon part was dropped and he was renamed Batista. I actually remember in late 2002 when he debuted on "Raw," he was referred to as Dave Batista before being referred to as Batista. Also, Edge used to be referred to as THE Edge.

I thought was The Undertaker. Some places list it as "Cain the Undertaker" others say "Kane the Undertaker". Also, Earthquake was originally "Canadian Earthquake". I'm almost certain that, during one of his early appearances, Kane's name was spelled Kain or Cain on one of the screen intros. I'm aware of the Undertaker's original name. Yes, I remember it in a graphic about calling the WWF Hotline or something like that, it was definitely spelled Cain at first.

Armando Estrada was de-Alejandro'd. They also stripped him of all character and...even worse, made him wrestle. I have to wonder what would have happened to Bobby Heenan or Jimmy Hart if they debuted in the last 10 years as opposed to before.

Kerry Von Erich made his first few appearances as "The Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich, before dropping his name and just becoming the Texas Tornado. The Ultimate Warrior also appeared on a few house shows as the Dingo Warrior.
