Since WCW and "The Total Package" was mentioned, don't forget about "Booker T" to "Booker" (and then quietly back to Booker T), Rey Misterio to Rey Mysterio, Psichosis to Psychosis, Eddy Guerrero to Eddie Guerrero, and WCW Thunder to Impact Wrestling.

Similarly, Fandango originally went by the name "Simply" Johnny Curtis before adopting his current name.
Oh, and in WCW, Ultimo Dragon originally went by the name Ultimate Dragon. They even aired a promo to explain the name change (that it was a translation error).

Wasn't Barry Horowitz referred as "David Horowitz" a few times on TV?

Fandango was originally Fandangoo from his original promo video. Somewhere along the line they decided to drop the extra o. Which confused me for some reason, since the new name shares a name with the movie ticket ordering site Fandango.com. One would think that the original spelling was WWE's way of getting around that issue.

Rey Misterio Jr. dropped the Jr. when he signed with WWE. And changed Misterio to Mysterio.
"Bad Ass" Billy Gunn eventually switched to being billed as "Mr. Ass" for awhile.
I think Curt Hennig originally showed up in WWF as "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, before eventually they just referred to him as Mr. Perfect, like that was his name.

Wasn't Crush called Kona Crush for a minute or was that just a nickname?
I think that the Berzerker was simply the Viking for his early appearances.
Davey Boy exclusively became the British Bulldog.

On that note, WCW had a Cruiserweight on the roster called Ultimate Dragon because they couldn't figure out the super hard pronunciation of Ultimo Dragon.

I'm kinda certain that, at some point, they just stopped using his first name and just called him "Lashley."

I'm kinda certain that, at some point, they just stopped using his first name and just called him "Lashley." I always think it's been McMahon's desire to replicate Goldberg: The surname-only bald power wrestler who tears through opponents. We've seen it with Lashley and Ryback, and, hell, even Goldberg during his year in WWE. The only problem is that nobody in McMahon-land has the patience to properly build-up a wrestler like that, instead flushing away all momentum for a cheap PPV buyrate three months into the storyline.

"Psicosis" became "Psychosis," but that might have been WCW.
