After seeing the trailer, I still have no optimism whatsoever concerning this movie. Mainly because Zack Snyder is directing.
Also, I'm so sick of the seemingly mandatory "OMG SO DARK AND BROODY" tone that all Batman and Superman movies must have now. We can thank Christopher Nolan for that garbage.

I just hope Batman doesn't 'win'. I'm really tired of that. It was cool one time in DKR for the story being told and just how unlikely it is, but Batman lasting more than two seconds against Supes doesn't happen 99 times out of a 100; and it's really tedious how often they go to that well. Even then it's not like Batman did it alone either... He had the help of Green Arrow... and a friggen Nuclear War to help him...

Just watched the trailer again and I realized what bugs me the most, it came off as really f***ing depressing. I really hope that is not the vibe of this whole movie. I always imagined a Superman/Batman team up movie being really fun. It looks like they sucked all the fun out of both characters. I mean really, what's with the Superman statue with the words False God spray painted on it? That's a bit much. I guess I'm just a little old fashioned and I'm used to seeing Superman portrayed as the ultimate good guy that the people love and rally behind. Not some Jesus metaphor that no one trusts. No sir, I don't like it. I agree. Superman's not dark and depressing. Superman's the beacon of hope, and the moral center of the DC Universe. He's the guy people love, they don't see him as a false god. He's the one people cheer when he does what he does. He's the one that people aspire to be, because it's not his powers that make him THE hero. Make the Superman movies like the Flash show, because that's Superman. He's someone who does love having those powers and saving people. Hell All-Star Superman with one moment gave us what we love about Superman, and that's in the middle of everything he was doing, everything he had going on, he stopped to comfort a suicidal teenager.

Loved the trailer but I also loved MOS.
Is that a sniper rifle at 1:35? I'm guessing that's a nod to TDKR when Bruce used a rifle as a grappling gun.

This may or may not need a spoiler tag, but what the heck. Here's one question that's been gnawing at me since I first viewed the trailer this afternoon: {Spoiler}Is Batman going to be a villain? I mean, the movie is called "Batman v. Superman", so obviously they're going to come to blows at some point, but is he going to be an antagonist?
Because it sure comes across that way in the trailer. From the voiceover about "the rage...powerlessness that turns good men cruel" as they focus in on the suit to the final line, in which it sure as hell sounds like Batman is threatening Superman, I'm getting the feeling that Batman ain't going to be the superHERO in this one.

I really think a lot of people are missing the damned point. It's dark because Superman has not become the beacon of light for humanity that the character is always destined to become. It's dark because no one even really knew of his existence until they were visited with death and destruction, all courtesy of his people. Even though he saved the day, the first glimpse of him that far too many people saw of him was he and Zod destroying half of Metropolis during a slugging match.
As far as who the villain of the movie is, there actually may be no true villain this time around. Batman certainly appears to be the aggressor, but there very likely may be a good reason for it (or at least as far as Batman himself sees it). Luthor may also be acting as he sees best and perhaps will only become a true villain in the aftermath of this movie.
Also, for those worrying about whether Batman might win or not, I seriously doubt it. I get the impression that this movie likely will be Batman hitting Supes with everything imaginable while Superman spends much of the movie trying desperately to not get killed while at the same time not killing this insane human who is attacking him not out of hatred but out of fear. If that is so, I suspect that the movie ending in a draw or Supes winning but connecting with Batman somehow might be the outcome.

If I had to take a guess my thinking is that Batman saw the destruction from Man of Steel and became scared just as Lex did. However these two men will take widely divergent paths after that.

This. I kind of see things both ways, like the people defending it saying "this was Superman starting out." But on the other hand, remember the "You are a gun" controversy? This is this turned up to 11's.

Boy I sure am glad they made it darker than the Nolan Batman movies. They were too damn upbeat! Yeah, you get a Batman who can speak intelligibly, no more unintentional comedy! That was funnier than anything Rocket Raccoon did!

That's what I keep thinking/hoping they build up to, is that moment where Superman goes from alien protector to true hero. The Big Blue we know from the comics, from the movies or serials depending on how you were introduced to Superman. If they eventually build to that moment, then this all makes sense and is very awesome. If he stays the MoS Superman for the whole JLA movie run... not feeling it.

So many people are comparing Marvel films and the DC ones, but here is the thing we had four Superman movies where Superman was the shining beacon of hope people are used to. For better or worse WB is trying to make something different. My belief (and hope) that by the end of this new film Superman will be back to or close to that Superman from the 70s and 80s movies. This experiment could very well blow up and not work. I am not into this DC vs Marvel thing, when I used to read comics I read from both companies. I want both to do well event hough Batman is by far my favorite hero.

I feel recastings are going to happen for the next 5 years because of fan negativity. I don't see Gal Gadot lasting into 2017. If the TV universe keeps getting better and getting more positivity than the movies then just scrap the movies and make a deal with a streaming service and make their hypothetical failed DCCU on a smaller scale with better writing.
But that won't happen because our wallets talk and not our mouths. I'm hype for this it's just I know something won't be done right and that's what lingers in my mind.

Wonder Woman is shooting this fall before anyone can even judge her performance in BvS. The negativity is moot at this point. Why would they set up a deal with a streaming service when they have their own network in CW? And that's certainly not going to happen. They don't want small scale nor is there any indirection that the movies are going to fail.

I will say this, though, on the "brighter and softer" Marvel criticisms: sure, the Age of Ultron roll-out seems to show Joss Whedon defintely overplayed his hand with the snark this time, and I'm not even looking forward to Ant-Man, but Marvel's already shown a willingness to go dark with the Daredevil series (a style I imagine the rest of the Defenders series will follow). On that same note, both Marvel and FOX (with Winter Soldier and Days of Future Past, respectively) have shown they can do big-stakes action without the gloomy, no-fun-allowed air that Dawn of Justice has.

I do like the idea of people not knowing what quite to make of Superman, but the trailer is too skewed through Batman's POV for my taste. Though I'm biased.

I noticed that when it shows the soldiers kneeling whilst Supes walks down a corridor, they all had patches with his logo on. So I'm wondering if maybe they're cribbing Injustice and Supes has a regime going?
