Saw this article on MSN and thought it'd make for an interesting discussion. www.nbcnews.com/news/photo/texas-woman-tackles-boundaries-pro-football-team-n37671I can't quote the article easily since it's broken up with a bunch of pictures, but it's worth a read-through. Anyway, Jennifer Welter made history by becoming the first woman on a professional football team; that team being the Texas Revolution of the Indoor Football League. It naturally brings up the question of whether or not women should be allowed to play skill positions in the NFL, which hasn't been done in the league. Honestly, I don't know if they should. It's not a question of toughness for me as this woman could easily kick my ass and yours, but I think it's too risky for the league to take on. If you have a woman on a team full of men in a league full of men, the first time that she gets a nasty hit placed on her like we see all too often, I have no doubt that the media would try to make it a sexism thing and question whether or not it's fair to hit women in a game the same way some dudes hit each other. That's why I don't think it's a good idea, but what say you, FAN?

99.9% of women don't have the physical capacity just due to biology, so if they had that sure, but they don't.

If they are fine with accepting the consequences of what can go wrong and have no issue with men hitting them hard then let them.

If they have the talent and the physical fortitude, sure. Just like any male.

Could I join the Wnba or not since their is a male equivalent?
when I was in high school they let a girl on our wrestling team (she was terrible). But I'd bet if I wanted on the volleyball I'd be turned away.
I guess I'm saying I don't know.

Its just a game - of course they should be allowed to play if they can perform on the same level as their male counterparts.

But I'd bet if I wanted on the volleyball I'd be turned away. I'd be very interested to see some examples of something like this. I mean if a guy can't perform on the same athletic level as men, but can for women - should he be allowed to play on a predominatly female team?

If they're capable of handling the psychical toll and grind, then technically yeah. Biological restrictions mean there'll be very very few who make the cut if at all, but they can go ahead.

In high school sports it's fine. I don't like it in professional sports.

I understand that there is no physical contact between people in Nascar but I don't really see that much of a difference. Are the women in Nascar treated differently? Because if men or women are prepared to try and squeeze someone out of a racing line, knowing that the slightest mistake in judgement could lead to far bigger issues than being hit by a 300 pounder, then I think the original post is a valid point.

There's simply no way they could do it. Not in football. It's simple biology. If, hypothetically, there was this monstrous woman who was as good as the guys and could hold her own, then I don't see any reason why not, but that's not at all likely.
I've actually always wanted to see a girl play in the MLB though.

If they are physically able to meet the requirements, then they should. And I highly doubt any woman going into the nfl would be completely clueless as to the consequences ,as some of you seem to imply. I don't think we're gonna see small, dainty women try out, and then see them start crying because they got a boo boo.
Although I can easily imagine some players purposely trying to injure them out on the field ,in order to teach them a lesson for "ruining their sport".

Sure....why not. If they can do it, go right on ahead. But no sexism crap if they suck.

Im not a big NFL fan or know to much about it but is there an actual womens NFL league for them to play and compete in? I do agree that if they are up to the phsyical aspect of it, they should be given a shot.

Let 'em if they want to I guess. As long as we don't see a woman join, get crushed by about 3 dudes and try to sue the pants off the owners of the company.
Plus, you hear about various hazing of people, imagine what the women would have to go through.
