Clearly inspired by the greatest rap classic of the 90s.

I hate Slappy. I have a phobia about ventriloquist dummies, and of course, the ONE character my son loves the most... Is Slappy. The movie looks cute though, can't wait for it.

I actually had no clue until seeing the clip that Jack Black was also voicing Slappy

As long as the end involves them turning a cuckoo clocks birds head around and going back in time to erase it, but then they are toddlers and now may not exist if they don't turn that birds head back around!

I got approved to take my students to see this in the movies. If I don't win Teacher of the Year, then...well, it'll be OK, I guess.

So yesterday we discovered that the local Del Taco has Goosebumps lunch bags that come with the kids meals, they were: the werewolf of fever sthem, slappy, the gnomes, and the abominable snowman of Pasadena. Of course my son wanted then, so there we go, buying them all.
The movie looks really good.

I'm currently at the theater for a special sneak peek of the movie.
Starts at 6. I'm really excited because the books were the reason why I was such a big reader as a child.

Just got back from it. I really liked it. {Spoiler}The actual RL Stein has a cameo at the end, which was a nice surprise. Looking at the things that really worked, the cast really gelled together, and each of them were likeable and rootable, with Zack, the protagonist, getting a nice arc in which he learns to move on from the death of his father which happened pre-movie.
The weakest of the characters was Champ, who was strictly comic relief. His antics were really amusing, but the only real character moment he got was him telling Stein that his full name was Champion, and that his father was a Bronze Medalist in the 1992 Olympics, and his mother was also a champion athlete, which lead to his name.
While Slappy made the most sense as the focal villain, since he is arguably the most known of all the Gosebumps monsters, he didn't really do much. There wasn't really a reason why the other creatures followed him the way they did, unless it was loyalty for freeing them, but even that's a bit of a stretch. I really enjoyed this, and I think people who read the books will have a better appreciation for some of the stuff that happens than those who didn't, even if it's just seeing the creatures you read as a child come to life on the big screen.

Going to try and go see this tomorrow. Be only the second time (first being Inside Out) I've been to the movies since Man of Steel, not really been getting the chance to go to the movies much.

Inquiring minds gotta know: Is there a insane plot twist at the end of the film, in true Goosebumps fashion?

I'm going to ask my best friend if he wants to try and see this with me. I think he'll want to, I'm sure he had a few books himself.

Sincerely that was one of the best times I ever had at the theater {Spoiler}Legitimate f***ing scary at times. Vampire Puppy scare, Gnomes, and the Ferris wheel scare come to mind.
Honestly my only flaw was some of the dialogue but that's only a nitpick
Jack Black did steal the show as Stein.
And if they do make a sequel, we need more everything. More past monsters, more 90s cheesiness, and more running jokes (Dummy)

I think this movie really kind of came out at the right time. Kids would obviously want to see it, but the likelihood that their parents actually red the goosebumps books as kids would lead them to enjoy the movie a lot too. It's got it's flaws, but it's a pretty fun time at the movies.
