I think this movie really kind of came out at the right time. Kids would obviously want to see it, but the likelihood that their parents actually red the goosebumps books as kids would lead them to enjoy the movie a lot too. It's got it's flaws, but it's a pretty fun time at the movies. I saw this with my girlfriend last night, and we both enjoyed it (tho she admits to me to never have read a single goosebumps book, WTF, she did watch the show). It was great I thought, the kids that were in our theater enjoyed it (and were well behaved!), and like everyone who was in it, the monsters were good and .... ....

Out of the blue my aunt took me to see this today. It was great! A lot funnier than I thought it was going to be. Forget Slappy, Champ was the best character. The kid playing him knocked it out of the park. I'm more than ready for a sequel, if one gets announced.

I saw it for the first time today. It was a fun movie. Made me laugh more than I expected, Stine's rant about King was great, I liked the R.L Stine cameo at the end and the references to other movies/books were good.
My only negatives are there was a bit too much of a focus on monsters from the newer goosebumps books rather than the classic ones. Like I kinda wanted/expected appearances from the monsters from Monster Blood, the Scarecrows, the Horrors from Horrorland, the witch from Chicken Chicken etc. Also it took a tad too long building up to the monsters arriving. I think they could have gotten the backstory out of the way quicker and left more time for fun and silliness with the monsters.
Still, I enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun.

It's this generation's Goonies, as far as I'm concerned. I liked Super 8, but this just clicked even more with me.

What if they release an Are You Afraid of the Dark movie next? Could it work?

Rented it tonight and finally got a chance to watch it. Definitely better than what I was expecting going in.

I really don't want this movie to end up becoming underrated. A lot more people who enjoy genuinely good family movies need to know about this movie's existence.

Rented it tonight and finally got a chance to watch it. Definitely better than what I was expecting going in. Agreed. It's also hilarious how much of a pompous dickhead the film makes RL Stine out to be. He either really doesn't care as long as he's paid, or has a good sense of humor about himself.

I can believe Stine has a decent sense of humor about himself. That "drama teacher" cameo definitely accentuates that.
