This falls apart when you consider the fact Batista has literally strolled back into WWE and gotten a Wrestlemania Main Event match, with minimal effort. Where was his working back up to his old spot after being gone? I agree Batista shouldn't be in the title picture, although he didn't walk out of the company in such a fashion. Yeah, Batista at least had the courtesy to turn in a two weeks notice before he burned his bridges.

Personally don't even care anymore. Stay gone, come back... eh.. this main event scene is f***ed either way, so meh.

I know this is absolutely horrible, but it's the first thing that came to mind upon seeing the topic title.

I don't know if you're defending CM Punk with the logic of your post, but if you are, it's really not helping him comparing his leave to Batista's.

I haven't sided with Punk in any of this, only that I can understand his position. He's still stupid to walk away from guaranteed money, but that's his decision.
For anyone saying it's "his job" to entertain and all that bullshit, well...ever have a job where you bust your ass and then the company decides to promote someone else to the position that you're busting your ass for? Do you just stick it out, put a smile on your face and keep doing what you're doing? Because if that's your outlook on life, then the world is going to walk all over you.

I remember a job I had where I was making more money than I'd ever made before (not enough to retire unfortunately) and had customers request my help by name. Employees preferred me to make schedules and help train new hires. I had friends there but I didn't like working 6 days a week, to get 35 hours. I was unhappy with my boss and the final straw broke I was screwed out of a department manager promotion because my manager was an bitch. I quit my job without 2 weeks notice. Not one single person I worked with blamed me or held it against me. If this situation makes Punk a big baby then I'm a piece of shit (could argue that for other reasons than this incident). Only difference is, we don't know why Punk left so I can't judge him on it.

If anything, the people calling him a "big baby" are the big babies themselves. We don't even know what's going on with Punk and everything is speculation which a lot of people seem to be taking as fact.

Wrestling, at this very core, is still a pretty shitty business to get into. So many guys have died over the years due to demons that caught up to them trying to make a career for themselves. Constant injuries, traveling, staying in shape, eating healthy, dealing with fans 24/7 has led to some of them getting into steroids, pain killers, recreational drugs and alcohol to alleviate or fix their problems.
Personally, I have zero qualms with anyone who gets out of this business knowing the pitfalls working in wrestling. However, I think Punk could have easily squashed 99% of this by just being honest. He could have easily done one interview, explain himself and move on. Leaving all this uncertainty puts the WWE in an impossible spot to deal with their strongly opinionated fans while trying to put together a good card for those same fans to enjoy.
I get that he may not want everyone to know everything about him, but then again he's been open about his issues with his blood family. I don't know why all of a sudden he's absolutely quiet. Walking out the way he did was his prerogative and I don't blame him for getting out if he's not well, but he still should acknowledge it. I really don't think that's an extravagant request.

We don't even know what's going on with Punk and everything is speculation which a lot of people seem to be taking as fact. Bingo, I can't and won't pass judgment based solely on hearsay. Hell, what if Edge hadn't come out after Mania and done the whole retirement speech? What if Mania had ended, he'd gone to the doc and been told, "Yep, dude, you're done". He didn't put anyone over, he just said "OK, fine" and bounced? Or, hey, we could even say, "He knew Mania would be it, but he still went over, then made sure that his buddy got a title run on his way out the door". That's a pretty different picture from, "Guy gives his health to an industry, finds out he's got to retire early, walks away on his own terms, and helps a friend on his way out the door". Punk leaves, for whatever reason. There are plenty of chances to "walk back in and claim his spot", but he doesn't, not yet anyway There are three sides to every story - side A, side B, and the truth. Punk's side could be, "I'm burned out, I have a few months to go and one last chance for my last dream moment. It won't happen, and I'm beyond needing a break". Or it could be, "I want my title match at Mania, you assholes!". The truth, of course, is going to be somewhere in between, as it almost always is.

Despite it sucking for the Chicago crowd, I respect CM Punk more for not coming back. It means he likely believes his reasons for leaving are legitimate and he didn't come back just to placate his ego or bank account. I in no way think he's a "baby." That's asinine. And likely the thought process of those who are too cowardly in their own walk of life to stand up for what they believe in, or quit a job they no longer want or are causing them frustration. He owes me or anyone else nothing. Especially a hypocritical company who has the right to terminate any contract they see fit for no reason when the roles are reversed.

I respect him more for walking on what he considers bullshit. I'll grant the rumours of him being furious at Batista being in the main event as 100% true and tired of the business. He said on his WWE issued DVD he was done back at Money in the Bank, except he managed to deliver a revolutionary promo that got him mainstream press and attention and forced them into making him a top guy. So he came back. Just because he's an entertainer doesn't mean he can't be pissed at work. If you were the best damn fry cook at McDonald's and people only bought your fries and asked about you and gathered for you and then a big promotion came up and management decided to hire the guy who left 4 years ago to go be a manager at Wendy's, sucked at it and now was back, you'd leave too. I'm behind Punk 100%. For whatever reason he left. He owes us nothing, what he's left if his gift to us, nothing else required. Ever.

There are three reasons you take a gig in the entertainment industry: love, money, or happiness. You can have all three, just two, but you need at least one. Maybe Punk had none. Maybe he asked to leave for that reason and Vince agreed.
Ask yourself, why am I assuming the worst of Punk? I suspect it has more to do with you than with him.
