It had its faults but I liked Batman Forever, IMO it was an improvement over Batman Returns. I loved Carrey as The Riddler and I like an older Robin better.

i still love it. The deleted scenes really elevate it and show a pretty good psychological side to it...the giant bat is pants looking but the idea behind it and how Bruce deals with his parent's death is quite strong.

Batman Forever was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I loved Jim Carrey as the Riddler. Pretty much this. If anything, it also gave us: Not really, that song was already a couple of years old at that point, it already had a video. I loved Forever as a kid, but it really does not hold up at all. Extra points for Twoface protecting half his face from being scarred by acid with a piece of paper.

Really hated the whole "Batman doesn't know who he is" aspect of it. Three films in and he struggling with this? HE'S THE GODDAMN BATMAN!
As a kid I did like all the performances though.

To me that's another strike against it. Now if you'd said Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me... that I coulda agreed with My brother played that song all the time, all day and all night, loudly... I freaking hate that song thanks to him. Try working in a cinema that summer with the song playing every 45 minutes or so for two months. I have a hatred for Seal that will burn forever.

I actually think Batman and Robin is the better film, because it knows what it is and runs with it. It goes for high camp and it succeeds. Forever is marooned between Burton's uber-dark vision and the 60s Batman/Jim Carrey comedy.
Not least the absolute betrayal of Two-Face's entire deal in that f***ing movie. Don't even bother using him if you're not going to bother doing ANYTHING with him, and just ignore his most important element. I have no problem with creative license with comic adaptations, but you can change things while still being true to the core of the character (i.e. B:TAS's Joker, or even Dark Knight's Joker. Hell in TAS Joker has a definable identity in his past.)

That was a time when I enjoyed Jim Carrey as the over-the-top madcap lunatic in basically everything he played. So I liked it then...........but it's not aged well. The camp really stands out more nowadays. I do think the "psychological" parts with Bruce were rather good, though. In those parts you could tell that they were trying to do something serious...but in BATMAN & ROBIN they just tossed everything serious (so much so that the "Alfred dying" subplot was more laughable than not).
Also something a lot of people maybe don't remember/realize about BATMAN FOREVER............Tim Burton was a producer on it. I don't think he had much of a major role, but I've always attributed the darker visual elements of that movie to his influence (and the neon to Schumacher).

In my opinion it deserves worse than B&R
B&R is schlock but it's entertaining schlock. Batman forever has two very annoying villains, a boring female lead and a meh Batman

Batman Forever is a decent movie. It would have been even better had Warner Brothers not edited it to death.
The original cut was supposed to be far darker.

Batman Forever is a decent movie. It would have been even better had Warner Brothers not edited it to death. The original cut was supposed to be far darker. Rumor has it that's why Kilmer didn't get along with Schumacher on set. From my understanding he was expecting/wanted Forever to be darker, more faithful to the comics, and basically accepted the role without reading the script. So if that's true it's completely understandable why Kilmer didn't return.

Jim Carrey is an underrated actor. I really wish we had gotten a more serious sinister Riddler than the Frank Gorshin homage.

Eh, it was out about a year earlier than the film in the UK only, but came out in the US with the release of the movie and the soundtrack, where it became popular. As far as I'm concerned, without Batman Forever, the song wouldn't be as known as it is.

I remember watching Batman Forever in middle school and Jim Carrey's Riddler completely took me out of the movie. I used to watch reruns of the 60s Batman every day, Frank Gorshin's Riddler never made me want to stop watching because he wasn't annoying. Carrey's Riddler was ten times more campy and felt more like a bad Joker impression than anything.

Jim Carrey was f***ing abysmal in this movie. People complain about Jack Nicholson just playing himself as The Joker, but you could at least see The Joker there. Jim Carrey just turned up in neon green spandex and acted like a douche.

I've always compared it to Carrey doing a Gorshin impression if Frank had just taken handfuls of speed.
Despite what I said earlier, I do still enjoy the flick though. Like, it's a TERRIBLE f***ing movie like and Robin, but it's still fun.
