Never say never in pro wrestling, but I'd rather Punk maintains his health and happiness.

In that article at least he didn't really confirm retirement in any meaningful way.

Man, if he really is done, and he got out with his health in tact, money saved, and now he can just enjoy the fruits of his labor?
So happy for him. That kicks the shit out of hanging on and killing yourself trying to get that big Mania main event or whatever. Maybe he realized he doesn't need that validation, his career and his work speak for themselves.
I think he does one to three more matches down the road, though. It could even be a long sabbatical like Jericho had, and he comes back for one more good run.

What is his profession now? Local Chicago celebrity? There's only so many pizza contests, bowling tournaments, and Bozo the Clown episodes that one can appear at in a year.

If this ends up being a work, would it be the best one ever?

Yeah, never say never, but in the mean time, let him do all the charity work and self-promotional work that he wants to- it'll look good on him as a former superstar, and provide a good view of the company if that matters anymore either.
I'm a CM Punk fan and was sad to see him go, but I'm happy for him to have a few years away if he so chooses. Let him come back in a couple years on the commentary team or in more of a managerial role and I'd be happy.

Oh man, I had forgotten about Bozo. I grew up in Southern Illinois (which is not just anywhere south of Chicago, contrary to popular belief) and used to watch that all the time. Now I really want to watch Punk play the bucket toss game.

So glad I got to see him wrestle. Even if this is a delicious work, I hope he's happy.
Usually retirements are only fake if there's set off by retirement matches. Only two wrestlers in the entire history of wrestling have lost retirement matches and actually stayed retired.

Only two wrestlers in the entire history of wrestling have lost retirement matches and actually stayed retired. What a classy post. And yeah, I totally agree. I'm less thinking "Aw, damn. Sucks he's gone." and more "Man, we were lucky to have him." Very few guys have ever connected with me the way Punk has. That sort of passion in the face of everything being stagnant around him. That overwhelming sense that things aren't supposed to be this way he always seemed to have. I loved that about him. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

I never thought a guy not from the 80's or 90's would crack my top 10 favorite wrestlers, but CM Punk did. I just love everything about the guy. The selfish part of me wants him to come back, but then, I'd hate to see him toil away in mediocrity. Like others, I'm grateful for his career and hope he does whatever makes him content.

I think he'll be back one day. Not anytime soon, but maybe 2 or 3 years down the line he'll probably get the itch to come back for a final 2-3 year run. But if not, than I wouldn't blame him since he has to look after his health first.

If this is true, good on Punk for making his money and getting right the f*** out like any sane person would do. That's one thing I've always liked about Punk. He's like Chris Jericho in that even though he clearly loves wrestling, it isn't his life. He understand that there is a whole world out there to explore and things to do instead of just sleeping, eating, and breathing DIS BUSINESS for your entire life.

I don't care if he retires or not, as long as AJ doesn't retire with him
