That was... OK. Really, I can see why people don't like Clara now. A damn side too much focus on her. Capaldi is shaping up well as the Doctor though so I'll continue to give the series a shot.

I liked it. Capaldi is great and I could see him becoming a favourite Doctor of mine quite quickly. I have nothing against Clara and found her as enjoyable as ever here. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}So is Missy going to be The Rani then? That is what I got from the appearance at the end.

a MUCH different ..... almost everything ..... but this is dr who remember!
feels leisurely feels chaotic felt so out of place with the previous .....
this doctor is a new animal, better get your chair and whip out
LOVED clara's constant reaction and trying to figure out what the hell was going on, and comedy strax made me laugh out loud when he chucked the paper
the WHOLE episode was like ..... A SPRING ..... waiting to be released!
the titles with the spiralling, the theme that although doesn't have that THUMP to it ..... i thought the last one didn't have a thump to it, but i got used to that, it also sounds quite "metal-ly" too.
and capaldi brings the FIERCE, not being a whirling dervish at the start, being the quiet assuming doctor but then when he finally get's into the skin of him ..... his intellectual prowess comes to the fore!
AND THAT END TOO
maybe the longer running time gave it room to breathe and fully develop, so now the normal runtime will perhaps accelerate things a bit more!
now he's up and running, things will get good .....
*stands up*
I AN A WHOVIAN ..... FOR LIFE! *salutes like wilf*

Was dragged by the wife to watch it in the Cinema tonight. Not a fan of the new theme, sounds cheap and tinny. The opening titles are great though. Whilst I liked Capaldi in the role, it'll take me a while to see him as anyone other Malcolm Tucker. Every time that forehead wrinkled up I was expecting a foul-mouthed outburst. I liked the comment about Scottish independence. Jenny in an outfit with a very plunging neckline was most impressive. Jenny should be in every episode! Loved mad Sue White from Green Wing turning up right at the end.

I was kind of half and half on this one, but with the caveat that I think it'll lead to greater things. My main problem was the utter lack of consistency with Clara. with Name Of The Doctor, we were shown that she'd seen all of the Doctor's incarnations and was well aware about regeneration. She'd seen the Doctor as an old man, and got on with him perfectly fine. But all of a sudden, she's reacting like Rose did when she was completely taken aback by the concept of regeneration. It seemed an awkward way to shoehorn in drama, and Clara's had enough problems with consistent characterisation without piling more on. And Moffat took the "person you most esteem" thing from Hide and turned it into this apparently all-defining character trait that was never actually written into 95% of her stories beforehand. But she did have some positives too, I liked her using her experiences as a teacher to her benefit, making it more than a background detail, and how she pushed the villain's buttons in that whole conversation. Once it got into that territory, she shone as a character, and hopefully there'll be more of that in future episodes than "mopey egomaniac". I enjoy Jenna Coleman as an actress, and I hope we get some fun interactions between her and Capaldi now that Clara isn't a 'mystery' and neither is the new Doctor. Capaldi's Doctor is excellent, quite different from the other New Who Doctors. Rather... Mercurial might be the best word, flowing between different moods where Matt Smith was more of an all-angry or all-happy character. I feel like his leaving Clara behind is going to be the 'strangling Peri' moment everyone's going to flash up when talking about the idea of a darker Doctor in terrible soundbyte documentaries! Loved the new theme, minimalist electronic take seeming a bit more like the Radiophonic Workshop of old. After multiple themes building on the same basic premise, it's nice to shake things up, and same with the clockwork credits rather than just a new vortex each time! Oh, and hooray, we've got another flirty female character who calls the Doctor her boyfriend. Haven't been enough of those in Moffat's run.

Oh, and hooray, we've got another flirty female character who calls the Doctor her boyfriend. Haven't been enough of those in Moffat's run. Pft, Capaldi leaving Clara behind is a minor issue compared to Colin Baker strangling Peri. At least Capaldi's Doctor doesn't seem to be psychotic (or at least deranged psychotic). I really enjoyed this episode. Even though I'm a fellow Scotsman I have to admit I was struggling to understand what Capaldi was saying at times but that's mostly down to him using a more quieter tone. But when he snarls, man he snarls! I thought this was the best Clara had been written in a while, and Jenna Coleman gave a brilliant performance. I'm actually looking forward to seeing more development for Clara as the series progresses especially with the rumours floating around that Coleman will leave at the end of the series. The ending intrigued me, I have to admit. The first thing that popped into my mind was the Rani due to how similar the actress who plays Missy looks and sounds to Kate O'Mara. I'm probably looking into things too deep though. Overall, I'm excited for the rest of the series to follow and if things keep going like they seem to be going, then Capaldi is going to be one of the all time great Doctors.

4 minutes 'til the show starts here. Y'know, I kinda want to like Chris Hardwick, but for some reason I just don't. Like, why does that guy have to host every show that discusses other shows?!

Well, for my first real attempt at watching Doctor Who, I have to say I enjoyed what I watched.
Still need a while to process the show before I can start to be more of a fan, but for what I saw, it was pretty good.

Apparently Twitter was going off on Chris Hardwick during that silly, pointless "pre-show". Rightfully so, IMO. That was completely unnecessary.

Oh, and hooray, we've got another flirty female character who calls the Doctor her boyfriend. Haven't been enough of those in Moffat's run. Yeah, I thought it was a great episode till that end part. Still a good episode IMO but I could do without "Heaven". Apparently Twitter was going off on Chris Hardwick during that silly, pointless "pre-show". Rightfully so, IMO. That was completely unnecessary. I think it was just so they could pad it to fill a complete two hour slot.

I thought it was great. Capaldi was great as expected and I'm enjoying the hell out of this incarnation. Clara was surprisingly good, lots of neat interaction between her and the Doctor and she seems to finally be developing a bit beyond a walking plot device. Still don't like Lesbian Lizard Detective and her sidekicks but they were tolerable in this. The story itself was pretty good, nothing outstanding, just the straightforward mystery adventure that a regeneration story needed and I liked the little parallel between the Doctor and the villain in the way they renew and reinvent themselves. My initial thoughts on Capaldi as the Doctor: Definately more introspective than Tennant or Smith or even Eccleston, but not necessesarily in an emotional way, if anything he's more analytical, puzzling his way not just through the story but also himself. But he's also very physical, there's a lot more aggressive shouting and even a bit of a hand-to-hand fight at the end, with the implication that he has at least some of his old superhuman strength from the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker incarnations back. He reminds me a lot of Spock from Star Trek, still primarily a thinker but he can also be a physical threat when he needs to. Also there's the implication that the Doctor actually subconsciously chose how he would look like in this regeneration from a face he saw once. Capaldi was in Fires of Pompeii as one of the people the Doctor rescued, so maybe it's a sign that he has finally overcome his survivor's guilt from the war.
tl;dr
The Doctor is now louder, angrier and has access to a time machine.

Just finished watching the episode
1 - Don't like the new theme 2 - But LOVE the new title graphics. They're my favourite so far 3 - The dinosaur was WAY too big that bugged me. 4 - Strax was amazing as always. "and we will melt him with acid!" made me laugh. 5 - Was unsure of Capaldi in the first 20 minutes but he quickly grew on me. A darker, more sinister Doctor whilst still managing to be quirky and funny is good. 6 - I enjoy the darker tone to the stories whilst still remaining good family entertainment. 7 - The scene between the robot and the villain was excellent. Especially the ending with the did he/didn't he push him off. 8 - The scene with Vestra wearing the veil whilst talking with Clara was also excellent
Good episode. I enjoyed it a lot.

Here's another thought, spoilers for the ending: {Spoiler}I know time lord names are traditionally always titles or forms of adress, Doctor, Master, Monk, Valeyard, President and so on... but technically "Missy" is also a word used to adress someone, although very informal. And we know for a fact the time lords are back, so...
