I want CM Punk to start a hardcore/punk rock band. He did guest vocals live with H2O and recorded a song with Madball and sounded great. He doesn't need to wrestle anymore honestly, unless he really wants to.

He seems almost too adamant. Like he's trying to convince himself.
Maybe I read it wrong but if he was so content he wasn't going back wouldn't he just smile and give the generic "No plans but never say never." line?
Not to say he will ever go back but to me it seems as if he hasn't fully convinced himself yet. The idea of going back, or at least the idea that he might be tempted to go back, seems to bother him a bit, which it wouldn't if he was sure he was never actually going back.

Punk's comment was dripping with sarcasm and bait for the IWC. He didn't look like a guy who was unsure, he looked like a guy who knew exactly what the comment would cause and he got it because we're here now.

He saves a bunch of money by wearing those DARE t shirts that they give away free to kids at school.

Maybe this means crowds can STFU with CM Punk chants since he's pretty clearly made the decision of his own free will.

Good riddance. May he do whatever the hell he wants to do until the day he drops. I haven't or will I ever even begin to miss his criminally over rated ass.

If he tweeted that out, before his finger left the send button there would be a Newz headline: "Punk announces possible WWE return" The guy says no, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever: and your conclusion is that "he's trying to convince himself," and you would be more convinced that he was done for good if he said there was a possibility that he might return. I don't think anything he could do: remain silent forever, hold a press conference saying he's retiring for good or say "never say never" would persuade everyone that he isn't coming back. So whatever he does, someone will try to read whatever into it.

So whatever he does, someone will try to read whatever into it. The point is if he knows he isn't coming back why the need to be so forcefully adamant? Truth is he doesn't know. Nobody knows if they'll return to an old boss, old town, old girlfriend, old bar, old house or whatever. He doesn't know that in two years time he won't be sat on the couch and think "Gee I wish I got one more chance to do that." Why does it bother him if people think he will come back? Why the need to publicly deny it? It's not as if he's done this to set Jim Horton of 1178 Port Street, Nevada straight. It just smacks of a recently quit smoker or a dieter. "I'm never, ever, ever, ever, ever going to have another drag/go to Wendy's again." It's one of those 'who are you saying it for, you or me?' things. If he wasn't going back and was comfortable in that the rumours he might wouldn't bother him at all and he'd be at ease with the idea that one day he might. Nobody knows what the future holds. If he made the decision not to go back and was at peace with it a smile and a "who knows?" wouldn't bother him and he also wouldn't care less how people took it. If the internet exploded with "punk to return!!" stories - so what? That would only bother him if he was obsessed with his return himself and googles his name all the time. The whole thing just seems as if he's trying to prove a point to himself. Keeping an open mind wouldn't hurt anything. He may not want to go back now and might not see himself going back in the future but to completely rule it out all future working relationship with the company seems odd. He cannot possibly commit his future feelings to how he feels now. None of us can. It has more than a smattering of boy who insists he really, really, really finds that other girl ugly and she makes him sick and look at her face and he hates her and...nine years later they're married...type things. More than a hint of over-compensation going on.

More than a hint of over-compensation going on. As you point out, nobody ever "knows" anything. You and I don't "know" why we decided to post on this thread -- we probably think we do, just as Punk probably thinks he knows he isn't going to wrestle again. Does anyone really know what time it is or their place in the universe? But this is getting a little too existential for me. My guess is he answered so emphatically because he hopes if he says it "loud enough" or "with enough emphasis" maybe he won't be asked again. It's hopeless -- he will get asked -- but it's a stretch to think that this one answer (you think AJ or his friends or WWE or others haven't asked this, even though the answer wasn't publicized, or that thousands of people haven't asked him Twitter, etc.?) this one time he was asked gives us psychological insight into whether he truly believes in the deepest parts of his heart and brain that he won't wrestle again. No way to ever prove it but I'd guess he'd pass a lie detector test if he was asked that and answered NO. That doesn't mean he cannot change his mind. It's not like it's a crime. And I stand by my assertion that ANY answer he gave (or gives when asked in the future) is going to be deconstructed and dissected to ridiculous proportions -- even to the point that someone might believe that an emphatic NO means he's unsure inside and a wishy-washy "probably not" means he's retired for good. In the final analysis, he's either going to wrestle again or he's not, and what he says doesn't matter all that much.

After reading this thread I can totally understand why Punk (and others) gets annoyed with fans.
He gave a silly, over-the-top answer to an innocent question and people are dissecting it like it's the zapruder film.
