God, she looks so much like her dad. I can't unsee it.
And this looks like 'Tyler Perry's 50 Shades of Grey'

If you are looking to pick up on a plethora of girls with self-esteem issues, Feb.14 is the night to go to the movies.

I guess Fifty Shades of Grey is kinky if your idea of being adventurous is having sex somewhere other than a bed.

I got Gatsby vibes from this trailer where the song and the way it was presented really elevated the trailer imo. I'll be interested to see some of the followup stuff.

Also, I haven't read the book or know anything about the "plot," but based on what people have told me it looks like the film has least TRIED to infuse some sense of actual story into the thing.
That being said, I'll probably watch when it hits netflix because Dakota Johnson's lips.

If nothing else this will allow me to bring up the subject of kinky sex with women without looking like a total perv.

God forbid there's an exploitation movie aimed at women, for better or worse. It's not like you see this same kind of tsk tsking for something like The Expendables or Kill Bill or The Green Inferno or Sin City or any range of hyperstylized thoroughly unrealistic movies aimed at men. It's a popular franchise that's probably going to make a lot of money with a movie adaptation. I mean we get what 10, 20 mindless comic book movies a year nowadays, because it's more/less assured they'll do some amount of business, at least a handful of absolutely worthless hundred million dollar spectacles because China can't get enough of that shit, why not have a sleazy romance novel movie?

Nope, and nor has Hollywood, women's pictures are doing well these days.

Does look a bit generic, but that is just two minutes of selected scenes. I enjoyed the book. I thought it was a bit of a rip off from the claiming of sleeping beauty in a way. I get the secretary comparison totally, but if you read the book you will see the departure as well. The book is not about the submissive being the scarred wounded person like secretary but rather the opposite. The hero in Anna, is doing the coming of age story. Sex is the medium. The emotionally wounded or deficient in the story is actually the dominant and as such it is still in line with the secretary as it blames emotional issues for seemingly deviant sexual behavior. The reality is BDSM is not exclusive to emotionally scarred people at all. But in order for American puritanical views to allow for this sort of book and film, it must assign that negative value to a participant in BDSM. There are many people who enjoy BDSM that have emotional trauma in their past. But there are likely just as many who enjoy it just because it is an escape. The Internet is an escape, alcohol, drugs, video games, music, books, films, TV, exercise....nothing in sex between adults is wrong unless someone is unwilling. I hope that the film series can help convince casual viewers of this point

Because 50 Shades of Grey romanticizes abusive relationships. People who read (and watch) this tripe are going to come out thinking this is how BDSM in relationships works when it couldn't be further from the truth.

Wasn't this already made as Secretary? I mean I know some people don't think Maggie Gyllenhaal is attractive and she's attracted to Ultron, but come on.

And I guess I'd argue that this is neither the first nor the last work from which problematic ideas could be gleaned. Something to talk about, something to critique, but I guess I think there's value in having works with problematic ideas existing, that people can entertain themselves with, can escape to, while having the power to separate reality from fiction. When I have heard other women describe these books it has not been in the hushed tones which one would use to describe sacred texts. There's probably a million things out there people shouldn't model there lives around.

Oh the poor saps that will get suckered into seeing this crap on Valentine's Day that will be so let down when their girls won't let them try any of the sexual hijinx. Suckers. I almost want to stand outside the theater with many buckets of cold water to get it moving along.
