Honestly, this movie is going to set us back another 20 years. Might as well show the movie "Ass" and call it a day. And WWE will make a skit Booker T at the movies about that one, which will be reviewed by both Book and Mr. Ass himself Billy Gunn. And Goldust and Stardust will make an appearance as well. Probably reenacting each scene.

Fifty Shades isn't abusive in the sense of being hit. It's abusive because she basically lives in fear of him. He controls her completely against her will, hacks into her bank account and e-mails, which is unlike anything relating to BDSM, which is why many people into that lifestyle, also hate the book for portraying it as something it isn't, and the writer seems to think all of this is romantic. Now, if there was a mainstream FemDom equivalent, that wasn't played for laughs, then it'd be truly scandalous. And my Wife and I might finally read poorly written books and watch poorly made adaptations of said books together. So, uh, yeah...contrary to what may has been stated elsewhere in the thread, female dominant/male submissive BDSM relationships do, in fact, exist and the lifestyle is not intrinsically sexist. I, um, have a friend who might be into that too. Yep, a friend.

The main guy is trying to hard to sound like Patrick Bateman Which is annoying, because that man was AMAZING in the BBC show The Fall. Admittedly as a serial killer. Funny aside, I have a female roomie who likes smut, and the Bodice Ripper type romances, she HATED the books. And everyone I know who's into the BDSM lifestyle rolls their eyes about this. My recommendation? Go watch The Secretary instead.

The committed bachelor was never far from his young ward. Sorry ladies, only room for one sidekick in that dynamic duo.

It's deceptive of anyone to suggest that Fifty Shades is about a woman drawn to a man because of his sexual preferences. It isn't. Like Twilight, it's about a woman drawn to a man because of his fabulous wealth. If Christian Grey or Edward Cullen were poor, they wouldn't be appealing, even if they were still controlling freaks or even vampires.
These books are about the lure of money, nothing else. The message being sent is that if a man is rich, his abusive behaviour should be tolerated and glorified.

Forgetting all the arguments about whether it's sexist or abusive or whatever. I read about half of it and I didn't finish simply because it SUCKS. The sex parts aren't explicit/descriptive enough to be interesting. It was like porn for people that are too sheltered or shy to read/see real porn. And the non-sex parts of the story were even worse. One chunk of it was just the two main characters exchanging emails and discussing the contract for her to become his sex slave, basically. Most of the book is Ana describing how impossibly handsome and rich and intimidating Christian is and omg he's so hot it should be illegal and why does he want an average pale girl like me?!? He's so messed up with a dark and complicated past and so controlling but I can't help but feel attracted to him blah blah blah blah. It makes sense that it started as Twilight fan fiction, because not only does it feel like bad fan fiction, but also like Twilight it seems like the author is in love her own male lead.

He was called the motherf***in' Batman and that place was called the Batcave. Better (Batter?) recognize~! You obviously spent a good deal of time and effort making that so I won't bash it. I just couldn't find the substance. Well made anyhow. The Secretary...man that trailer took me back. My girlfriend and I (2003 no longer together) had a tremendous sex life for a while. Fueled by the fights we had. They were epic in scope, content and duration. The steam eventually ran out and we weren't as passionate in fighting nor sex. One night we stumbled upon the secretary on HBO. We had no idea what it was about but just started watching because it had James Spader and we both are children of the 80's and hadn't seen him in years. Dude it was awesome. After it was over we both stared awkwardly at each other for a moment and then someone spoke first. I can't remember who, but the discussion began about what kind of kinky Schitt each other had been hiding. I will skip details due to ignorance of FAN forum rules on subject matter, but in brief, we began exploring aspects of our selves we had never expressed. We both had these fantasies we would have never ever have broached one and other about. The movie was a catalyst that started a new phase in our relationship. We got kinky as hell that night and many many a time afterward. Not so extreme as some folks that are into BDSM, but we were getting more and more intense everytime until we split up a month or so after the movie night. Not saying its for everyone, but what I'm saying is I think everyone represses their fantasies and in so doing, misses out on a full experience. To you younger ones who post here please do not take this to mean you need to start this. If you aren't an adult yet but are having sex, be safe and don't rush off to get into this. I was in my twenties and that was a good time to explore that arena. I hate to use the analogy, but learn your craft first before you try to do a moonsault. It'll still be there for you if you like in a few years. Not every partner will be ok with this stuff either. My wife is ok with a very very small measure of it that I won't mention and I have accepted that it will not change. That is ok. The novel (fifty shades)and now the movie will bring some people into it but likely not all the way and that is fine as well. But they will try to spice things up and that is a good thing. Vanilla with sprinkles may be fine and more than enough for the curious. Bottom line is the books were a good thing and the movie will be too in my opinion.
