I thought you guys would know by now that it's well known that Brown did absolutely nothing to the cop at all and that the media and Co are portraying him to be a robber just so the cop gets off scotch-free. This is of those situations where paying attention to the media is bad.

Here is a copy of the police report filed by Darren Wilson. As you can see, it's not much of a report:

I take it that if I'm passionate about this issue that I should forgo reading this thread for the sake of my mental health or no? But yeah literally ignore the mainstream media, especially CNN, on this one guys. They have been playing right into the Ferguson PD's sloppy ass cover up attempt and making what should be an utter failure of a coverup actually have some level of success within the minds of your average citizen. Best source of information has been twitter feeds of Antonio French (a local city level politician from Ferguson) and various journalists who are there on the ground. There's also plenty of independent articles online, live feeds, and collections of tweets on tumblr and such. Not sure how much I can post without breaking board rules.

Yeah, social media sites are doing a WAY better job of covering everything that's happening with no BS involved.

I've HEARD they're the single worst source for news about this situation but I don't actually watch the mainstream news (god that sounds SO much more smarmy than I intend it) except briefly over my grandma's shoulder sometimes so I can't say for sure. Thats just what I've heard. Maybe they've changed tone. There's a video out there of a guy, Talib Kweli is his name, calling out Don Lemon (to his face) on him and CNN's sloppy reporting though. Again might be a change of heart situation, I don't know.

I can't be angry at that.

I bet you they would have more factual info and better reporting from a 30 minute comedy show then all the news channels combined.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver did a rip roaringly awesome report on it. It is on the tube of youse.

This is of those situations where paying attention to the media is bad. Has the video of him robbing the storeowner been debunked? (I ask because of how you phrased this... "media and co. are portraying him as a robber" rather than "media and co. revealed that he's a robber"... I hadn't heard that it has been, but it wouldn't surprise me).

The thing that doesn't make sense about the smear job is it doesn't change the fact that the guy was unarmed and surrendering to the cops when he was shot dead.

No, it was pretty well confirmed on the day that the cops brought it up that it did happen, but it was also confirmed that the cop knew nothing about it at the time of the shooting and it played absolutely no role whatsoever. It was only after bringing it up caused trouble that the police chief changed his story saying that Wilson saw the cigarellos in Brown's hands during the incident and put two and two together. That just was not possible and incredible that they would even put that out there.

The date on the video doesn't add up and the locations of the robbery and shooting aren't nowhere near close enough for Brown to get to one spot to another. Plus, the store owners have debunked it themselves.

I like how this article takes out Fox News for using unsubstantiated shadowy sources and at the same time acknowledges that CNN is using unsubstantiated shadowy sources. Not weighing in either way because I have not read up on everything yet--but that's just humorous. The headline called the claim bogus but then admits that the claim that it's bogus might, in fact, be bogus too. They're clearly hoping nobody reads the story, which is because Salon--like Fox News--has its own agenda. At this point, nobody should be jumping to any conclusions until the investigation concludes.

The thing that doesn't make sense about the smear job is it doesn't change the fact that the guy was unarmed and surrendering to the cops when he was shot dead. That's the thing. It doesn't change anything about what happened, but it does color whether or not the Court of Public Opinion TM believes the kid deserved to die...which, we all know what happens then. I know that's as subtle as a hot-pink, singing brick to the face but that's pretty much what trying to smear the kid's character boils down to and I think it's way past time to stop talking around it being what the Ferguson PD is trying to do. Besides, this is like SOP.

The police should release a photo of the cop's face.
Then it will be clear whether he was actually injured or not.

The police should release a photo of the cop's face. Then it will be clear whether he was actually injured or not. Doubtful. How would people know if it was actually taken immediately after the incident? And there'd be people disputing the authenticity no matter the date. Some artifacts in the image would convince someone that it's a photoshop/forgery, even if it wasn't. If there was a photograph, it needed to be released ASAP to quell any suspicion.
