I always think Matt LeBlanc's spin-off of Married... With Children didn't take off, until I have to look it up and that it actually happened, and had 7 episodes. This process repeats every few years when I forget again, because why would I remember that? There was another backdoor pilot, MWC tried called Enemies. If MWC was the cynical answer to the Cosby Show, originally titled Not the Cosby's, then Enemies would be the later seasons writers and producers version of Friends. It was really, really bad. It made Radio Free Tremaine, another backdoor pilot, look brilliant in comparison.

Call me nuts, but I seem to recall a possible spin-off of Blossom based around her brother Joey (Joey Lawrence) and friend Six (Jenna von Oy). (Eh, it kinda happened 15 years later. Joey got his own show, paired with Melissa Joan Hart. Fun fact is that Melissa was offered the role of Six, but she turned it down to take the lead in Clarissa Explains It All. We are all better because of it.) Speaking of which, there was a proposed spin-off to Clarissa Explains it All that was pitched for CBS featuring a college-aged Clarissa working as an intern at a NYC newspaper. While the show was never picked up the filmed pilot was aired on Nickelodeon a few times as a "lost" Clarissa episode. I remember at one point after Welcome Back Kotter became big in reruns on Nick at Nite in the 90's some of the original cast members (not John Travolta though) announced on the Jenny Jones Show that they were in talks to do a revival series following the original Sweathogs as adults. Nothing ever materialized and I doubt it ever even made it to the pilot stage. At one point the Sci-Fi/Syfy Channel was working on a Quantum Leap spin-off that would feature Sam Beckett's daughter entering the time machine to try to find her Dad. Any role Scott Bakula would've had is unknown since Enterprise was still on the air at the time. There's Batgirl, which was meant to spin-off of the 60's Batman show. Then of course there's Aquaman/Mercy Reef for the WB back in Smallville's hey day. Whether it was actually meant to be a full spin-off of Smallville or just a spiritual successor is questionable. While most of the production staff denies it, a lot of people seem to think that the third season episode of JLU called "Far From Home" was meant to be a backdoor pilot for a DCAU Legion of Super-Heroes cartoon. KidsWB did produce a Legion cartoon shortly afterwards, but it had nothing to do with the DCAU or what was seen in that episode. In more DC animation, the final season of the Superfriends (The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians) featured an episode called "The Fear" heavily focusing on Batman which was meant to be a backdoor pilot for a solo (well duo counting Robin) Batman cartoon. The second season of 70's Wonder Woman featured an episode about a lost girl from a magical kingdom with superpowers who gets adopted by a millionaire newspaper magnate was meant as a backdoor spin-off for those two characters. I can see why it wasn't picked up. I have a pretty low opinion of 70's Wonder Woman in the first place and this was probably the worst episode of the series. And of course there was the proposed Jimmy Olson spin-off of the 50's Superman show that would've featured George Reeves posthumously reviving his role as the Man of Steel through stock footage. Out of respect for Reeves Jack Larson said he wanted absolutely nothing to do with the idea. Pilots were also filmed for a Superboy (featuring a blonde Lana Lang) and Superpup spin-offs of 50's Superman as well. Greg Weisman pitched several ideas to Disney for Gargoyles spin-off's back in the day, notably one featuring King Arthur. Of course Gargoyles was never exactly a ratings success at its peak so Disney wasn't all that interested.

Faith and Spike did get spinoffs though in Comic book form. They are considered continuity as well.

There was going to be a spinoff of The Office, revolved around Dwight's life at the farm. When NBC decided not to pick it up, that pilot became an episode of The Office. And it was awful. The shooting of the corpse. I can't. That was horrifyingly tasteless.

There was that backdoor pilot of the Cosby Show that would have starred Tony Orlando as a guy who runs a community center. A) I'm amazed it didn't get picked up since it seemed like anything Bill Cosby was involoved with back then would gotten pushed through no matter what. B) I can see why it didn't get picked up because it was one of the most boring episodes of The Cosby Show.

I believe HBO and the BBC were talking about a TV movie to puck up were the zeros Rome ended. Personally I would have preferred a prequel about the first a Roman Civil War.
I also recall reading thst Hugh Laurie and company have ocassionaly discussed the idea of a new Blackadder series, with proposals for it to be set during the second works war or even in the future, sort of like Blackadder meets Star Trek.

They gave up on it when Rowan Atkinson decided he was too old to do the part anymore.

Parks & Rec sort of morphed out of Rashida Jones and the Office writers that did P&R planning to do an Office spin-off following Karen after she left Scranton to run her own branch.

Original Star Trek had the backdoor pilot ep "Assignment: Earth".
Also, I think there were a few attempts to give Gargoyles a spin-off that never manifested.

The shows working title was 'Jerks'. On topic: X-Men Origins: Magneto - After XMO: Wolverine was met with dismal reviews I guess this was abandoned... And Magneto's origin story was worked into XM: First Class.

The Joey spin-off from Friends. Obviously, they decided at the last minute that even attempting such a thing would cheapen the legacy of the original and it was a foolish idea from the beginning. Therefore, it NEVER. HAPPENED. I liked Joey.

Well, there was one or two episodes completely focused on King Arthur and almost (if at all) no gargoyles, so can we consider those the backend pilots?
