I haven't downloaded it or listened to it, I will yet, but you gotta admit, awesome way to release an album. I can now say, "Everyone in the world has Songs of Innocence... You were issued it." Only Frampton Comes Alive can say that as well.

I stared at my computer in mute horror when I saw I had a U2 album in my playlist. But now it's gone forever, so I can rest easy at night again.

I scowled viciously at the offending collection of 'songs'.

I didn't really see the fuss really if you don't like U2 don't listen to the album but saying that if, say, The Script or Pink released free albums on iTunes I doubt I'd be happy to have that in my library!

The issue is that it was placed on every iPhone without notification or permission and made impossible to delete without special tools. It's probably not a great move for apple, what with a lot of talk about cell phone privacy being invaded and whatnot. Plus it's U2. They're horrible.

I can't say for sure but it's probably there in the Terms and Conditions that we all ignore and just click "agree". If it wasn't then I'd imagine they'd be in some legal trouble. None of that changes the fact that Bono is a cretin though.

it's a nice gesture but a bass-ackwards way to do it. if you don't like U2 it's still taking up space on your ipod/iphone. and Apple being able to put whatever they want into your itunes without asking is kinda creepy.

If it's for Free, great, but it should be willingly gotten by Fans.
Apple, U2, and such, could say the Album is on ITunes for free, and link people to where they can download it, not give it to every single person without permission, that's just stupid, the whole world doesn't love U2
I don't like the WWE Right now but at least they don't forcefully put the App on your phone, they shove it down your throat but they don't just put it there without permission thinking you'll totally want it...

This is not a stellar month for Apple, is it? First the celebrity hacking scandal, due to glitches in the cloud (like keeping copies of all of your pictures forever, even after you've deleted them), now they're just downloading whole albums onto people's iPhones and Macs without permission.
Where the hell is their PR guy?

All I thought was "When are Adam Scott and Scott Aukerman gonna get their free t-shirts?".

I don't mind, but it scared the hell out of me, I thought someone hacked into my account, or there was a virus.

I like U2 personally but can see why people would dislike them.

This whole ordeal was enough to finally make me switch to Droid. It's bad enough that they put the album on your device/computer without an option to delete, it makes it worse knowing it was f***ing U2.
Hell, I may end up absolutely hating whatever Droid phone I end up with. But to put it bluntly, at this point, I'm tired of Apple's shit.

It was definitely so very Bono/Apple. "Of course our users/fans will want it, because we told them they want it." But yeah - it was pretty crazy. They should have just sent an iTunes email with the option to add it to your library for free.
I mean, they give their album away for free to millions of people but they can't give TWO frickin tshirts to Adam Scott Auckerman!!
Just give em the t-shirts and then they'll get the college chicks!

He's more charitable than anyone else in the world apart from Bill Gates.
