I assume since this is a show instead of the traditional wrestling promotion they will fall more in like with a regular 22-23 episode season.
Which if you're gonna cut costs anywhere that would not effect quality that would be the easiest way.

Yeah, I would assume that reducing it to around the length of a normal season would save a fair bit of money.

Eh, it's for the best. Still enough episodes to tell plenty of stories. Now if it's 10, bad show. Very bad show.

So season 2 details are coming out now. It's confirmed they're going back to the Temple, right? I think I read that somewhere. Ironic that they spent so much money to give it a look like it's shot in a run-down venue. What can anyone tell us about John Fogelman? Will this be like WCW, where network execs constantly shoot down edgy angles or WWE where they want sports-entertainment instead of pro wrestling? And wasn't Van Wagenen the guy who was pushing for Vince Russo to join the creative team during the first season? On the plus side, wrestlers getting time off between seasons can allow them to recover physically and mentally, which they don't have that option in WWE. But they do need to keep a presence, and make people see them as a wrestling promotion rather than a sideshow. Part of what killed Wrestling Society X was the decision to run it like a TV show instead of a traditional wrestling promotion.

Deadline confirmed they are staying in boyle heights...whether that means the exact same venue idk.
As for John Fogelman I assume he will play the same role he has being an executive producer idk if he also had final say in season 1 I assume he did since he co-founded El-Rey so I doubt this ends up a WCW situation , as for Van Waganen from listening to him on Austins podcast he aknowledges he knows very little of the wrestling side of things and he leaves that to the likes of Chris Dejoseph so he seems to understand what he is good at and wont bother trying to take on the side he knows very little about.

So if the budget was 400k a show last year and they did 39 shows, they were budgeted 15.6 million, 16 if they were given double for the 2 hour finale. Damn, no wonder there was a huge issue with the budget.
With the series staying in Boyle Heights, they'll have to make some changes to the Temple, exterior/City shots can be done anywhere so I don't think that will matter as long as they change up the interior some. Or I guess shoot it as Dario reminiscing so to speak.

Other notes from the latest Observer:
- Jeff Cobb will be one of the new on-screen characters. He's been doing dark matches before tapings - Marty the Moth will have a bigger role - The 2-hour Ultima Lucha finale did around 95,000 viewers, with much more viewers watching on Unimas. The first episode did over 20,000 viewers and a few episodes peaked at 100,000 viewers - Matt Striker will remain as lead announcer while Vampiro becomes Pentagon's manager. No word on who Vampiro's replacement will be or if Michael Schiavello will step in - The announcement of a new season messed up WWE's plans on increasing their Hispanic market. They were in talks with Rey Mysterio about bringing him back under the assumption that LU was cancelled - Still rumors abound regarding LU airing on Televisa in Mexico
The latest Observer also stated that Jeff Cobb will be one of the new on-screen recruits (He's done a few dark matches before tapings) and Marty the Moth will have a larger role next season.

With them remaining in Boyle Heights they should pull a SAW.
And what I mean is that while we saw Dario flee the temple it should eventually be revealed that the new temple never moved but is just one series of underground temples he had "built" in and around the original.

As much of a bummer it is that they'll have a shorter season this year, if it helps kickstart a third season, then so be it. I honestly liked that LU ran for almost the entire year. The time without it has been lackluster.

I will take a shorter season to keep the quality on par with if not better than season 1.
And with cutting back on episodes and international distribution they definetly give themselves a real chance to make huge strides in not just growing the product but also turning a profit.

I'm quite ok with slightly fewer episodes. Talent getting some rest is a plus. Also, I can see them managing their time well. They did this last season by not having every wrestler appear on every single episode. This worked quite well in not burning us out on the same characters. LU made the one hour time work to their advantage(instead of stretching out as much you can for a three hour show).

I am sure that unlike the automobiles that hit them, every piece of roadkill ever could have seen this coming:
HERNANDEZ-LUCHA UNDERGROUND UPDATE by Dave Scherer @ 1:08 PM on 9/25/2015
Lucha Underground sent us the following press release, stating that they parted ways with Shawn Hernandez. Hernandez had been working for TNA after telling that company that he had already gotten his release.
As it turned out, he didn't and TNA was forced to cut out any segment with him in it from TV that they had taped.
Lucha Underground announced earlier this week that they would be returning for a second season.
‘LUCHA UNDERGROUND’ PARTS WAYS WITH SHAWN HERNANDEZ Los Angeles, CA (September 25, 2015) – Lucha Underground, the Lucha Libre wrestling franchise from United Artists Media Group and FactoryMade Ventures, has released Shawn Hernandez from his contract and they have amicably parted ways. “Lucha Underground” is produced by United Artists Media Group in association with FactoryMade Ventures for El Rey Network. Executive producers are Mark Burnett, Eric Van Wagenen (also showrunner) and Brian Edwards of United Artists Media Group; Dorian Roldán from Lucha Libre AAA; Alejandro Garcia and Antonio Cué Sánchez-Navarro; El Rey Network co-founder Robert Rodriguez; and FactoryMade Ventures and El Rey Network co-founders John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa. The series airs on El Rey Network and is distributed internationally by United Artists Media Group.

Oh my God, so after all that shit that happened with TNA having to edit him out of every appearance he made while under contract to LU, it turns out they didn't want him anyways? That's like the ultimate troll job right there.

From what I heard, he'd asked for his release and they were gonna let him go, but they asked him not to appear anywhere else 'til UL was broadcast and he just didn't wanna do that. So really, just desserts.

I am binge watching this show at the moment and have just got up to the Grave Consequences match, holy shit that was amazing!
I love how literally every character is in an interesting feud right now:
Puma-Konnan-Cage Mundo-The Hunter Fenix-Catalina-Mill Zeke-The Crew-Sexy Star Havok-Ivelice-Angelico Drago-Aerostar Alberto-Texecano Pentagon Jr with his master and arm breaking Chavo with all of Mexico gunning forhim Black Lotus, Cueto, the unkown masked luchadore and whatever is in the cage
Also I am reading this thread as I go and see Matt Striker is getting hate and people were asking him to be replaced. Are you crazy? He's fan-freakin-tastic! An amazing commentator.
Also I don't get the hate for Sexy Star at all, she's great.

I wouldn't mind Striker if he toned it the f*** down. I think he's really earnest and genuine about things, which is cool, but it borders on obnoxious, especially when he tries to get too referential or gets kind of smarky in an attempt to put things over. That's jarring for me and takes me out of it, like when he said something along the lines of "there isn't any slapping of the thighs when people do superkicks in OUR temple!" He's at 11 but I think he'd be just fine at 6 or so. I know a lot of Striker fans say they'd rather have someone who cares "too much" than just be like Raw commentary but that's a bullshit argument that implies you can ONLY have one or the other, though it's one so, so many people are fond of making. I'm not heartbroken over Striker being back, personally. I just want him to dial it back a bit, that's all.

I am the complete opposite I love striker on commentary and IMO he is the best commentator since JR BUT I can understand how he can be grating for some but to me he comes off like a fan that is genuinely enthusiastic about what he is apart of , it is gonna take a little depending on who they get to replace Vampiro since I thought Vamp played a nice contrast to strikers over the topness.
So lop me into the group that rather striker be over the top and draw me in instead of sitting there being monotone and not caring about what is going on.

Striker needs to find a balance, there are moments such as when The Dysfunctional Trio won The Titles where he did a great job putting them over and what it meant for them to come together to be the first champs. But I understand why some would find him grating.
