The passive aggressiveness in that message by WWE is amazing.

I'm looking forward to even more thinly-veiled digs leading up to and just after his first fight, whatever the outcome is. Much like with everyone else who goes off to do something else, they'll knock 'em...unless they're a success, then they'll roll out the welcome mat made out of cash. Who's looking forward to the CM Punk Birthday Bash RAW in 2019?

Punk is the only wrestler who can draw so much ire and so much love simply by existing. I find the reactions to him fascinating. I'd love to do a sociological study on both sides.

This is clearly just a way to take advantage of the internet traffic and get a few more Network subscribers from the searches that land on their site, look at all the ads for it on the page of that story.

WWE may as well have added "...and that Wrestlemania main event is yours any time you want it" to the end of that statement. I'd love if years down the road Punk came back, main evented mania and was like "THIS WAS MY MASTERPLAN ALL ALONG. I had to leave to make you give me what I wanted! Because that's the way Vince's brain works apparently!" "Since I couldn't be a part of the solution, I decided to be a part of the problem!"

The sponsorship thing is absolutely insane. Just, completely and utterly unthinkable if you're outside of the la-la land that is the WWE Universe. Back in the 90's, you saw Michael Jordan's face everywhere. From shoes to breakfast cereals to frickin' underwear. Do you know WHY you saw him everywhere? Because companies with sponsorship dollars to spend wanted the most popular guy to shill for them. You didn't see the Bull say, "Hey, Nike, you don't want Michael Jordan. Here's John Paxton. Hey, Wheaties, Jordan's not your guy. How about Scottie Pippen? You don't want Punk. Not really. So here's Big Show (over the hill giant), Rey Mysterio (who can barely walk), and Eve (who is, like, the 4th most popular Diva). You don't want Punk for your video game. You want Sheamus. This is the kind of thing that anybody who ISN'T a simpering yes-man would have put the boots to in about five seconds. Don't send your B and C list guys to people who want to sponsor you. Slim Jim doesn't want to help your second stringers get over. They don't want to *pay* for that privilege. They want to use YOUR guy to sell THEIR product. That's how these things work in *reality*. That right there is the issue with the sponsorship Punk was talking about. Most companies want to be associated with a winner, ideally one that's morally acceptable to although that can be worked around. So in this one instance I think Vince is right as it would cause all sorts of issues. Do companies really want their logo visible when a hated heel pours an urn full of ashes over himself? Would people refuse to do certain things due to their deal? What if that company gets bad publicity and brings that to WWE? What about international markets with different advertising laws? Then the only option is for WWE to control such deals to try and prevent those conflicts of interest or legal issues. Except of course then they'd book the show based on the most lucrative deals even more than they already do, at least now companies mostly sponsor the brand rather than the product or at least have some distance from on-screen events. It's not the same for real sports because in theory they don't directly effect the competition (although they distort it). Even then you still get Adidas sponsored Messi winning the Adidas player of the world cup award that even he was embarrassed to win, it might as well have been a slammy. Of course for videogames it's different as that's in-house anyway, no excuse for that. And I haven't said it elsewhere there's certainly no excuse for firing him on his wedding day or any of the other shitty things he talked about. Oh and I'm amazed his t-shirt royalties may only be $0.20 an item, I've designed t-shirts for companies and since the day my cut was reduced I thought I was being ripped off but I still get more than that. The amount varies but I'd say I get an average of $1 and that's with three (or sometimes four) parties involved rather than just the two. Although I hardly sell any and he sold tens of thousands.

John Cena was given a Schick razor blade deal, commercials, and paper ads. No Reason Punk couldn't be allowed to have his, OR ANYONE ELSE for that matter. The company insists on John Cena. I f***ing hate it too because I really like Cena the wrestler, and I think I would like the person too. But the corporate machine that surrounds him makes me really want to hate him.
Yet I still watch every damn show available so I guess I am too blame for supporting the machine.

I completely forgot about this actually. What is he even trying to say? First off, Punk is NOT a technical wrestler at all, he'd probably be the first to say this. Out of the whole early 2000s indy class, he was probably the least technical one out of the main guys. Punk has always been about the psychology of the match more than anything, which is exactly what HHH does. He then tries to use Austin as an example of someone who wasn't a "technique" guy, which is total horseshit to anyone who has seen anything he did before 1996. He compares Punk to Steamboat like the two are analogous, when they are literally nothing alike besides being undersized compared to their peers. I know it was for WWE Magazine, and is probably half-kayfabe, but what the actual hell is he talking about?

so he moans about Ryback hurting him in a worked match and now he wants to compete in UFC? alright Punk We have been over this point. They are not even close to the same thing. In wrestling you are supposed to protect each other. In MMA you are on the defensive expecting to be hurt. Entirely different situations.

That's kind of surprising. This is a minor thing, but WWE usually uses the phrase "we wish him the best" instead of "wish him luck." The only reason I mention the slight wording change is because Punk often says "luck is for losers" and he has a tattoo about that. Would the writer of this message intentionally change the usual wording as a very small dig at Punk? To me it sounds like, "Well, his wife still works here and we like her, better say something...." What we've chosen is "hahaha, he's gonna die!" but we gotta phrase it nicer.

I've thumbed through about half of this thread, but I'm not going to read 100% of it. Did anyone, or does anyone care to speculate who Punk was referring to when he said to chant CM Punk at guys who suck or wear lifts in their boots?
Sheamus? Triple H? Jericho?

I only got to listen to the first one at the end of last week but I finally listened to that and the most recent one
I've always enjoyed Punk as a performer but I've never been a total dedicated fan and he's always seemed like an a*****e
Having listened to his side of the story I can understand it, taking what he said at face value it does seem like the WWE never truly respected Punk even when he had that year long deal and all that stuff about Slim Jim and the movie etc. seemed to reflect that
He seemed happy and it was actually quite sweet the way he talked about AJ which is a side we rarely get to see or hear so good luck to him
Will he be back? Hey if Hogan, Warrior and Bret can come back....anything is possible

There are people that actually like this guy? Does it count if I don't mind him, because without him we wouldn't have Tyson Kidd's awesome current gimmick?
