They are going to be heel soon. It's been foreshadowed and it's not the least bit subtle. Well, the apparently-face Ascension (not confirmed, but the promos give off that vibe.) do need someone to face off with. This is my thinking. It was almost a foregone conclusion that The Ascension would of course debut as heels, but after that awesome promo and Road Warrior like presentation coupled with the fact everyone loves the NXt guys out of the gate I think they are going to be face and over like rover. The New Day seems to have been designed as a fake face stable with intent to turn heel since day one. The commentary has been negative and the crowds are of course booing them, because they have had subtle reasons to do this. It's going to end up as "We were just trying to have fun and enjoy our job and you guys turned your backs on us." type deal.

I don't even understand what the gimmick is supposed to be. It vaguely reminds me of Elijah Burke's TNA gimmick of being the street preacher/hustler, but with any semblance of edge taken off for the PG crowd. I thought the group was supposed to be a heel faction in the first place and was baffled when they showed up courting cheers. During the PPV pre game last night my brother joked "This is the kind of gimmick you give someone before you release them."

Also Big E and Xavier were around Years in Developmental. Big E was Over at one point, Xavier was ruined from day one as he came in as "R-Truths friend", and nothing more than that.
The gimmick really isn't what they needed. They were much better as The New Nation honestly.
Even TNA isn't stupid enough to think a New Nation is a good idea right now. You, uh, watch the news, don'tcha? *EDIT; I'd like to clarify, I am not calling you yourself stupid. I am just saying a racial angle could not come at a worse time, and even at the best of times, is a little too big for wrestling to tackle in a way that isn't infuriating. Not a Rehash of Nation of Domination, just a more no nonsense ruthless team. The Happy Go Lucky fun shtick just isn't clicking...

In two months if they are still doing this schtick I will praise you and admit I was wrong, but every angle has a beginning. They will be Heel soon. As it was designed to be since day one.

Well, I don't know if they need to turn heel to do this, but I remember the day after "The New Nation" formed, I think it was Slater Gator on Main Event that Big E and Kofi faced, and they just ran through Heath and Titus and killed them boys dead.
That's what Big E, Kofi, and Xavier need to be. Their happy-go-lucky crap only got them so far and is tired as hell.

Like, I actually like Big E and Kofi as a tag team a lot, and I like their double team moves, but the "NEW DAY" pandering isn't working. I don't know if scrunching their face up like they smelled a fart and all wearing black and red or something would be much better, though. I don't know how much of Big E's natural humor can be constricted without that feeling forced, too.

Uh yeah, as much as I love the fact that these guys go out here and do there thing, the crowd absolutely hates them. It totally reeks of white meat babyface anyone would typically reject. They would be super over 20 years ago but now is just the opposite effect.
Take these guys and compare to Roman Reigns, who absolutely oozed a badass charisma and easy to see why The New Day can't last with their positive messages. Times have changed, man.

As they got more abuse, Kofi's commentary got more heelish and overbearing with the Bo Dallas-esque positivity - maybe he was told they're going heel mid-match and to start a slow burn turn.

I don't get why they refuse to let them do the entertaining stuff they do for Youtube/WWE App on TV. RAW is 3 hours, air their funny shit for a minute instead of throwing them out there to die in boring tag matches that lack purpose.

I wouldnt mind them turning heel aslong as they keep their theme music. It's catchy as hell.

When the crowd, who love to chant things like pavlovian dogs, refuse to do your chant, you got troubles.

The audience has absolutely zero reason to care about them as a group, so I can't blame them for being disinterested.
I doubt the audience remembers the one time Xavier came into the ring and told both Big E and Kofi that their time is now. All they remember would be the vignettes where they were a choir for a second and now they're happy guys. Happy guys with no purpose than to clap and have a good time? This doesn't do good for any of them ...
At least give them a back-story. Something to work off of. They need to have edge, not be the next happy dancing act like Brodus Clay. I don't want them to be "The New Nation" .. because that's racist. A group of black people aren't the new nation. I just want them to not be a dancing bunch of goofs and actually do something meaningful.

They made Kofi Kingston a slam poet.
As someone who has always defended Kingston and genuinely loved his work since those 2007 vignettes, I felt compelled to boo my television set with nobody else in the room.
A f***ing slam poet. In 2014.
The most loathsome mouth-breathing fungus pseudo-art on the planet. And they made dearest Kofi one of them.
I mean, I like how Big E is going full-blown preacher with the gimmick, and Xavier Woods has had some compelling methodology behind what New Day is supposed to signify.
But we now have Kofi Kingston: Slam Poet.
I hate the world.

Heel turn with them becoming the no-nonsense Nation, please. It could be deliberate.

Again, I'm almost 100% sure the gimmick is leading to a heel turn. When JBL said "Who could possibly be that happy?" on commentary the other day it sounded like foreshadowing.

I hope when they turn heel they also start playing out the black church element from the vignettes. Giving promos like that attorney from Mo Money.

I wish someone could define for me what this gimmick is. As far as I can tell, the gimmick is: - They're black - They wear blue
The vignettes made it seem like they'd be like disingenuous gospel preachers which would be a f***ing awesome gimmick. They could start baptising other wrestlers and shit. It'd be over the top and cartoonish but also brilliant.
