I love rap where it's just the MC bragging about how good he is at rapping i.e. LL Cool J's "I'm Bad" and Big Daddy Kane's "Ain't No half Steppin'" There needs to be more of that.

I love the concept , but isn't being signed to Interscope basicly a contradiction itself How? Look at how Kanye went at the corporations , yet he still wanted to work with them , "To pimp a butterfly" seems to have similarities to "to kill a mockingbirds" message , giving the tracks we heard so far we have a great understanding who he is against Don't forget at the end of the day it's all about money , rap is no different than WWE , smoke and illusions

What do you think is the best diss track of all time? For me it's Ether because Nas just went in on Jay Z.

Interscope at least has given artists chances and hasn't been outright detrimental to its roster in the same way places like Atlantic and Jive have been. I don't see exactly what the contradiction is here.

"Takeover" > "Ether" It took Nas a whole song to do what Jay did in one verse, and even then every single Jay line was rooted in truth, whereas Nas made snide gags about how Jay dressed a midst scattered homophobia. "Takeover" is much more lethal.

How Much A Dollar Cost sounds like it might be the one Kendrick performed on Colbert.

Ether trumps Takeover, no question. Several questions, namely: how? "Takeover" has a better beat, and every line in Jay's verse is based on fact, not based ficticious. "Ether" has some alright moments, but part of the hype stems from nobody thinking Nas had that in him coming off the back-to-back awfullness of "You Owe Me" and "Oochie Wally."

Personally, the best diss track I’ve ever heard is “No Vaseline”. Cube destroys NWA with that one.
As for "Takeover" vs. "Ether", the latter is more scathing, and there's a reason it's so often the popular choice, but the former has a much better beat that makes it more enjoyable to listen to. I'd choose "Ether" as the better diss, but "Takeover" is the better song in general.

Yet only one of them was mumbling and borderline crying in their reaction to it. It did it's job in shaking Jay and that's what matters to me. Is he Dame Diddy, Dame Daddy or Dame Dummy? Oh, I get it, you Biggie and he's Puffy You're right about most of Takeover being fact, but this line trumps everything to me. I have trouble voting against the phrase "Tae-Bo ho"

I think "The Bitch in Yoo" by Common is another good one.

For those interested, the track listing for "To Pimp A Butterfly" was released. 1. Wesley’s Theory 2. For Free? (Interlude) 3. King Kunta 4. Institutionalized 5. These Walls 6. U 7. Alright 8. For Sale? (Interlude) 9. Momma 10. Hood Politics 11. How Much A Dollar Cost 12. Complexion 13. The Blacker The Berry 14. You Ain’t Gotta Lie (Momma Said) 15. I 16. Mortal Man We obviously know what "I" and "The Blacker the Berry" are but some of these titles sound interesting. It's also worth noting that this doesn't list any features so I'm sure they'll be some surprises on there. I remember last year he mentioned he didn't want any guests for this album. I'm interested to see the producer credits because he mentioned he has about 30 songs done with Flying Lotus, and if they're anything close to "Never Catch Me," then this album is gonna be amazing. And if I'm not mistaken, Dre is supposed to be doing some more production on this too. One more thing, this one off from the Colbert Report is too good to leave off. If it's not one of the titled tracks, hopefully it's a bonus

Yeah, Takeover may have been technically superior and is more fun to listen to (IMO) but Ether was clearly more effective. That's what a diss record is meant to do, it accomplished it's goal. Nas wanted to hurt Jay's soul and he did.

Anyone else here listen to Cannibal Ox? Their new album Blade of the Ronin came out back on the 3rd and I've been really enjoying it.
