Michael Jackson is surely at the top of this list. I'm surprised he hasn't been mentioned yet. From the biggest star in the world to, at best, a freakish laughingstock and, at worst, a child molester.
Not really. His legacy has endured and he still has plenty of fans. Rightly so as the charges against him were proven false. Thankfully, the same cannot be said for the actually guilty like Jimmy Seville.

There's no denying the damage it did to his career and credibility while he was alive, though

Savile has never been found guilty. Even though it's pretty predictable what the outcome would be had he been alive to stand trial for the charges made against him.

Barry Bonds. He took a ton of heat for doing things that likely 95% of the MLB was doing.

Kevin Sorbo. Sure, his career after Hercules was sort of doomed from the outset, but even after washing up in God's Not Dead, he seemed fated for the sort of wry, memetic nostalgia that Chuck Norris enjoys. Then Ferguson came along. Even the Son of Zeus is no match for the Dark Lord of Facebook Meltdowns. What did he say about Ferguson? www.huffpost.com/us/entry/5697647

If Mike Tyson can rape a woman and build his reputation back, anyone can. No such thing as a "tarnished" celeb. There'll always be a few that support them. Thing with this is people believe that he did not do it now. Whether he actually did, or did not, I have no idea, I am just saying a lot of people believe his side now

Nothing new has come to light since Tyson's conviction which would lead most reasonable people to doubt it.
Tyson however has continued to frequently display a hair-trigger temper which causes an immediate change in personality from jovial to psychotic at a moment's notice.

Fabulous Moolah's legacy will get increasingly dirty as more people discover the allegations and actions of her career.
John Landis will forever be associated with the preventable deaths in the Twilight Zone production.
To a much lesser degree, I think Chevy Chase's reputation as an arrogant dick also likely will haunt him for the rest of his career.
Frank Miller's increasingly dubious output and questionable commentary in his work has also rendered him as little more than a punchline in comics.
From a professional standpoint, numerous New Hollywood Directors were never able to get the stink of "primadonna creators of box office poison" off of them after 1980.

Michael Cimino
Heaven's Gate completely obliterated his career. It never recovered.

That's sadly true, his fans still loved him, but the general public was pretty much against him. It shouldn't have had to have been him dying to turn people around, but at least it did.

I know it's really recent, but between his meltodwn over his wive leaving him and his loss today over a copyright lawsuit, I don't think Robin Thicke will be able to recover. Michael Cimino Heaven's Gate completely obliterated his career. It never recovered. That reminds me, Geena Davis never really recovered from Cutthroat Island. And Renny Harlin goes from directing Die Hard 2 to directing Cena movies.

I was going to suggest Joel Schumacher's career hasn't recovered from Batman & Robin, but he's made a decent number of hit movies since then.

Michael Cimino Heaven's Gate completely obliterated his career. It never recovered. Which is a shame as it's actually a good film. Even if it had been a success though Cimino came across as such a tyrant on set it would have damaged him regardless Imo.

Those actors include Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp, Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Ewen McGregor, Ben Kingsley, Hugh Grant, Sigourney Weaver, Christoph Waltz, Adrien Brody, and John C. Reilly. So not going to happen. Some of these are way too beloved to have their careers killed. Just goes to show, then, just how shady and unethical many actors are. With all the great directors in Hollywood, why would you ever consider working for such a shit-stain of a human being? Um, obvious answer: Because Polanski is an excellent director, and nothing he did in his private life takes away from that.

I'd say Glenn Danzig. Along with the internet came the stories of his demands, his assh**e attitude, and then even video of him being knocked out, tarnishing his bad ass image. Plus, afaik, he doesn't have a legacy to harken back to and say "well age caught up with him..." He made some good music back in the day but it's not someone like Rollins or, say, Mike V who have mellowed with age but still have the legacy to back them up. I would hardly considered him tarnished. Sure over the years Danzig has been exposed as both a Diva and a major arsehole but his last album made it to the billboard charts.
