It's really tough to say. As long as you're relatively young and not in jail for the rest of your life, your image can be rehabilitated.
Mike Tyson and Michael Vick are two prominent examples from the world of sports, and while there are plenty of people who will never forgive them for what they did, there are a decent amount of people who are willing to look past it. With Tyson, he got back into boxing and has had a decently-successful post-fighting career. With Vick, he got a starting gig with the Eagles and Jets.
The more likely examples among present-day celebrities are those who are dead or too old for a comeback. If Bill Cosby was Kevin Hart's age, yeah, he'd be facing an uphill climb, but he'd be forgiven and eventually be a revered and beloved celebrity again. But since he's 77 years old, by the time people forget about his transgressions and his image rehabilitation begins, he'll be in his 80s or 90s or dead.

Tom Cruise. He hasn't been able to deliver at the box office since he went apeshit on Brooke Shields and Matt Lauer.

Just goes to show, then, just how shady and unethical many actors are. With all the great directors in Hollywood, why would you ever consider working for such a shit-stain of a human being? Um, obvious answer: Because Polanski is an excellent director, and nothing he did in his private life takes away from that. But what makes him great? Also, I find it unfathomable that so many actors can just look past his kiddie-diddling.

Except for Mission: Impossible movies. Didn't M:I3 do fairly poor compared to the first two, due to coming out during the peak of Cruise's weekly Scientology rants? It did pretty well, but not great in North America, but worldwide grosses allowed it to make a profit. Ghost Protocol was a pretty big hit. War of the Worlds was a pretty big hit too, though I don't know if this was before or after the Matt Lauer interview. But there's probably some truth that some of the public soured on Tom Cruise from the Matt Lauer interview, jumping on the couch on Oprah, and for his strong links to Scientology.

Tom Cruise. He hasn't been able to deliver at the box office since he went apeshit on Brooke Shields and Matt Lauer. Except for Mission: Impossible movies. And Valkyrie ($120m profit). And Knight and Day ($135m profit). And Jack Reacher ($160m profit). And Oblivion ($140m profit). And Edge of Tomorrow ($190m profit). In fact, his only flops in the last ten years have been Rock of Ages and Lions for Lambs. Literally everything else turned a profit, although nothing on M:I levels.

Michael Richards seems to be finished. Has he done anything of note since going on his racist tirade on stage?

Michael Richards seems to be finished. Has he done anything of note since going on his racist tirade on stage? About the only good thing he's done since his scandal were the Seinfeld "reunion" episodes of Curb Your Enthusiam, and he pretty much had to be included in those. I need to rewatch those episodes, but I think they did some funny references to his scandal.

How about Rosie O'Donnell? After her popular talk show, her true b*tch came out and it amazes me how many times people try to recapture the magic and keep casting her despite EVERYTHING she's done since being utter bombs.

Wanderlei Silva was beloved from his PRIDE FC days, until he ran from a drug test and later admitted he would have tested positive. The end result was an indefinite ban from MMA. And it's looking like Anderson "Bigfoot" Silva is going to go through the same thing and will be heading on that same route too, especially after being hypocritical about testing. And someone mentioned Jimmy Saville and wondering if Celebs were defending him? Jim Davidson was defending him and he himself turned out to be a gigantic twat and would never be as popular as he was when he played second fiddle to the likes of Dennis Taylor, Alex Hurricane Higgans, Terry Griffiths and John Virgo on Big Break.

I need to rewatch those episodes, but I think they did some funny references to his scandal. He did "comedians in cars..." With Seinfeld and Jerry encouraged him to get back in the game. He was on tvland for only a season of Kirstie, but at least it was something-I don't think his career would be very different now if the rant hadn't have happened
