How they're going to pull this off is beyond me. Depending on how they conceptualize God, Arseface, Saint of Killers, and Genesis in general I can see this pissing off WAY too many people.

They cast Joseph Gilgun.
That is all I need to give this show more than a few chances.

Read this back in my college days. Really enjoyed it at the time. I'm a born-again these days, so I can't really support this being on the air. More power to anyone who's athiest/agnostic and can get something out of this.

It's going to be Jesse and Saint of All Killers sitting around drinking sweet tea.

nerdist.com/dominic-cooper-officially-cast-as-amcs-preacher/One of my favourite comics is coming to TV, and the (young) Howard Stark is playing Jesse Custer. Hopefully it's a good show. AMC seem to have a good track record. Would rather HBO, Netflix or Showtime since they are not bound by the FCC. But yeah, let's do this. AMC is a cable channel and not really subject to the FCC, they just have to appease advertisers. This It's not really a matter of what you can get away with, it's a matter of what you can get away with that advertisers will associate themselves with. I think they'll be OK. It would be nice if it was on HBO but you can do the show without F-bombs, boobs, and gratuitous gore. It may be controversial but really it's not much different than stuff Supernatural has done for years.

It's a comparable alternative.
The one aspect of the comics I'm 100% confident this show will nail is the violence.

Depicting God as a paranoid, cowardly, and vicious tyrant has never been done in any form of media except Preacher. That's where they're going to run into a massive problem in my opinion. Not saying it won't be successful or anything, but man, they have a tough hill in terms of creating a series that will last. Like I said, it's one thing to adapt a story. It's another thing to adapt a story that has such a heavy hitting concept where it pulls no punches in terms of God or Christianity in general.

I really question the idea of doing Preacher without f-bombs or gore or nudity or over the top violence or...yeah.
I mean, that was Preacher's thing. Plenty of comics were doing the introspective "nature of man and god" thing back in it's day, especially on Vertigo and stuff. Preacher was the only one that was so vulgar about it. That's its thing.

I'd imagine if the kid from 'Rock, It's Your Decision' read a Preacher book he would have a brain explosion like the man in Scanners

Gilgun as Cassidy looks pretty damn good.

My initial response is a level of inappropriate glee that cannot be frankly discussed on the board.

Holy crap. It feels like Better Call Saul. That's a very good thing. I can't wait to watch this. As long as the story is good, I have strong enough faith that I can potentially enjoy this.

I was hoping to get some Jesse using Genesis in the trailer. Guess they're going to save that for the debut of the show?

YouTube douches going crazy over Cass not constantly wearing his glasses. If you ask me the reveal of his eyes in the comics was a bit of a letdown anyway, but jeez, these idiots are willing to boycott the show over something that small.
I'm just counting myself lucky that we got an awesome actor to play an awesome character.
Also some bitching about Herr Starr also, but I figure that there is no need to rush the character. He's season two material, hell, maybe even season three if it's successful.
Hope we get Sex Detectives at some point... but that would be a miracle to pull off.

As soon as I heard the AMC Guitar Twang, I had my doubts. The rest of the trailer sort of confirmed those doubts, as it looks like just another "gritty drama". Really enjoyed the comic when I read it in college but will likely be passing on this.
