This show is really coming along nicely for me. The cold open had a lot going on that definitely took me on a rollercoaster of emotions. It kinda felt like an awesome X-files style misdirect cold open or something. I dunno, I liked it a lot. They started to foreshadow the potential road trip, which is cool. The first official meeting of Cas & Tulip was terrific. As far as "meet-cutes" go, it was up there. Interesting to see how the Word is changing Jesse, very intriguing moral gray area for him to exist in as a character. Of course, Joseph Gilgun as Cassidy steals the show for me again - that dude is so hilarious and cool. Always cracks me up. He's a total cad but Gilgun adds this hidden warmth to the character. In fact the whole show has that kind of charm to it, in spite of the gore and dark humor. Yeah, I said it after watching the pilot, but it kind of has a Sami Rami feel to it at times, especially from AoD. But I don't get the criticism that nothing happens on the show. This last ep SO MUCH HAPPENED. If anything, my complaint would be they're doing too much too soon. {Spoiler} Jesse has already become 'corrupted' by the voice and is now using it to make the church more popular instead of stopping people from doing bad things. Also, if I were odin, I'd be SUPER f***ING pissed about what just happened. That was a BIG moment in terms of character for both guys and in terms of creating further tension between them.
Tulip discovered Cas is a vampire - which again, HUGE moment in the show in terms of character dynamics. And that's just the major character stuff. The side characters got a lot of development as well. I dunno, I'm really digging the show. Its arguably one of the coolest damn shows on TV right now for me. Only outdone in flat-out coolness by Peaky Blinders.

So far I like how they've {Spoiler}establised that Genesis is bad news, and that Jesse is clearly going mad with power. The Angels are running away with many episodes. The opening fight got an internal "ECW!" chant from me.

No one in this thread seems to be interested in the show? The opening fight scene from this past episode had me and my dad laughing. Just when you thought everything was calm and they had the Seraphi subdued, Cassidy walks in, kills her, and Jesse's facial expression was literally gold and had the "Oh. My. God. Not again." look to it.
At first I was kind of skeptical because of how different it is from the books. But what I am assuming is that depending on how long this goes, Jesse slowly and gradually becomes the villain due to Genesis fueling his desire to be God. The thing about this Jesse is that while Jesse in the book had strong values instilled in him despite a shady past, this depiction almost paints a man who had no control over his life, was abused, and he eventually becomes one of the bad guys that his dad talks about.

I've said it before and I'll probably say it again. I know that there's an Evil Dead show out there, but to me, this show is truly what a full-on Evil Dead show would be like. If nothing else, its definitely the spiritual successor.
The fight choreography alone makes the show worth watching, but you've also got a lot of terrific acting and character work happening. The whole arc with Arseface is just really, really compelling to me.
The ending to this week's ep WAS f***ING TERRIFYING.
I was leery at first because even though their fans, the creative team didn't exactly have the best track record for me, but they've put together a helluva show. Just top notch stuff. Great blend of comedy, action, drama. The whole gamut.

Show just gets better and better.
Jesse going almost full on Koresh was bonkers.
Flashbacks to their childhood was super adorable and also really sad.
I could listen to Cassidy review movies all day, every day.
Tulip does light parkour just to get her dad's pants back. I can only imagine what she'll do when shit gets real....other than downing a chopper.
I wonder if the wording of Jesse's command to Quincannon is what backfired on him. "Serve God" is pretty vague when you think about it

"Serve God" is pretty vague when you think about it I agree with you on Twitter on Quinncannon, I think he just worships money. It's nuts how arguably the most messed-up seeming of the main cast, Cassidy, is also the one calling for reason here. {Spoiler}Jesse trying to use Genesis to bring back Eugene and Cassidy shows he does realize he's going overboard. Him being corrupted is interesting, but it's nice to see he's struggling with it.

New ep was terrific. Great side story w Tulip. Line of the night... {Spoiler}"How ya doing?" "Not great. Preacher shot mah dick off."
The whole thing w the hallucinatory Eugene and the bizarreness of Quincannon's Humansim was great stuff. Loved the town picnicing outside the church during Quincannon's attack.

So I have this entire season (9 episodes?) recorded on my DVR. My girlfriend and I tried to watch the first episode, but it didn't really grab us. Should we try again?
Is this show worth watching or should I delete the season? I do need room on the DVR.
For an idea of our taste, we watch Better Call Saul, The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Gotham, Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones.
Thanks a lot!

It's definitely worth another shot. I will say if you've read graphic novels you'll be slightly disappointed because it's vastly different from the books.

Season finale was SO. f***ING. RIDICULOUS.
in a good way, I mean.
They've really found a good tone for this show - just that really bizarre, dark humor that you don't really see on TV that much. It has it's serious moments, but for the most part the show has a lot of fun with it.

...so, let me make sure I got this right. {Spoiler}So in the graphic novel, I'm guessing the entire town doesn't get wiped off the map, right? Like, damn, I guess they don't have to worry about paying those people to come back next season.
I did like the touch of the angels basically doing everything they possibly could to hide the fact that everything was going horribly wrong and God has buggered off, and would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for him not knowing about Genesis. I still liked it, and thought it was pretty good. I just hope it gets a second season; same with Into The Badlands.

This whole season has felt like a prequel to the comics.

I can understand why they did the first season as sort of prologue to the comics, in the comics you're sort of thrust into this situation and given all the info that we have, more or less, in the first issue and then the characters of Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy are expanded on throughout the road trip. It works for comics because you're used to a certain level of insanity with them but for a TV show I could see how it would be too much for the casual viewers.
I enjoyed the vast majority of this season and the main trio is everything I would have wanted in live action version of Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy but I'm kind of torn on blowing up the whole town after having us get to know the people there. It feels like a cruel joke, and it is, but it also feels like kind of a waste given how much you could still mine out of some of those characters.
Still, those final two scenes made me so excited to see what insanity they have planned for Season 2, bring it on Preacher!

They friendship between Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy gives you an emotional reason to stay invested even with all of the grim weirdness happening nonstop. You can tell they want to be decent people deep down but their backgrounds keep getting in the way.

I originally HATED the idea of a Preacher TV adaptation because of all the inevitable changes it was going to make to the canon, but honestly all the changes so far from Tulip and Jesse's new history together to the angels to Quincannon to the scene with the imposter God is all great stuff. I still miss Herr Starr though. Maybe hopefully in season 2.

I just hope the show can actually last so we can see Jesse's grandmother, Jody, Herr Starr and The Grail, and of course the eventual fracturing of Jesse and Cassidy's friendship.
