If I'm correct, the HHH/Taka match was a pure squash until Taka picked up a fluke win. That's different than Ryder getting in an even amount of offence with John Cena. I get your analogy, I just don't agree with it. Ryder getting all that offence after not being on TV in months apart from a squash loss just last week is not good and it took away any interest I could have had in the match. It should have been a pure squash until Cena made a mistake and Ryder pulled out the 450 out of desperation, hit it, Cena kicked out because he wasn't weakened enough and then Cena won. The Stardust and Barrett matches felt much the same, but at least those guys are constantly on TV and could potentially be a champion. Ryder won't be. TAKA actually went pretty even with Triple H, and lost due to distraction/Attitude Era f***ery. I don't disagree with your point, just here for the sake of accuracy. Maybe I was thinking about the HHH handicap match against Kaientai? or I might just have a bad memory of HHH matches with either member, haha. My mistake if HHH took a lot of offence in those matches, I just remember it differently. Maybe from highlights over the years where it's all HHH with only Taka winning at the end. I don't know.

If it's a one time thing, fine.
Otherwise it makes no sense for a guy in his position to do such a dangerous move.
You don't take main event risks unless you're getting main event money.

So he shouldn't do everything in his power to impress the fans and the office so that they'll think "maybe this guy doesn't suck after all"?

Wait, hang on, wasn't the whole point of Cena doing these challenges was to have matches like this against the undercard to help build it up again?
Or is it just because Zack Ryder had a competitive match with Cena that some people now hate the idea?

I guess some people just want their favorites to be put over, don`t know. or maybe it "devalues" the challenge somehow

I think there's some form of love and hate with the open challenge. They love it because they're seeing new guys get featured in some fashion. The hate comes in because it ends the same as usual which is LOLCENAWINS.
The drama along with the enjoyment would be there if Cena sold and actually looked vunerable in feuds and matches.

Oh, sure, I can see that completely and agree. The problem is the argument that now because Cena had a competitive match with Zack Ryder that suddenly all the people buying or wanting Cena merch are going to go 'Man, Cena sucks now' and the US title means nothing, then the company explodes or something.

To be honest, as nice as it was to see Zack get some time on Raw, the match was essentially Zack throwing everything at Cena and just getting AA'd. Which would be fine in a longer match but this was just one giant no-sell. I like the concept that Cena is going with for the open challenge, but it is essentially just Cena picking up wins every week over the midcard and kicking out of their best shot.

That's what I mean when I say these kind of guys should be the ones doing the open challenges. If Cena is doing a "giant no sell" to Barrett or Stardust, it's "same old shit". But a giant no sell to someone on Zack Ryder's level is more than they usually get on RAW, so a lower card wrestler automatically looks better by virtue of getting to actually use his offense on Cena.

It's been a long time since I've actively wanted WWE to troll the fans, but here I kind of do.
People are grinding their teeth against the double-edged sword of the Open Challenge (They like the idea of Cena having to work with lower-card guys, but don't like that in order for the Open Challenges to continue, Cena must win).
So I want R-Truth, Mr. "Why is he even here?" to most of the fans, to be the one to beat Cena in the end.

Meh, I actually wouldn't mind R-Truth winning the championship and turned into the crazy heel he once was.

As far as 450s go it was ugly and he looked scared af, but I'm glad he went out of his way to do something I've never seen him do before.

No He had already done that with enough fans to be given some level of mid-card push, and the office didn't give a shit, and did everything they could to squash it. Doing risky moves is certainly not worth it.
