Personally I was more irritated by people using two-minute matches against Eva Marie and Summer Rae mere weeks after she'd come back from injury as evidence that AJ was phoning it in or even was never talented in the first place, and taking her obviously scripted promos as her shoot opinions so they could claim she was not only a bad worker but also a terrible person with a shitty attitude, whilst also saying her promos sounded forced and her acting was bad.
Despite enjoying a lot of her stuff, I don't even miss AJ now she's gone because, along with the Divas division being too badly-booked for it to matter, I'm just glad that the hysterical weekly threads about how she needed to leave and ideally die are finally gone. Everyone has performers they like and don't like, but with some people it seemed to boil over into personal hatred sometimes, like Roman Reigns post-Rumble but over a much longer period. It was like, geez, just fast-forward her segments, they only last two minutes anyway. I've seen plenty of crazy fans of hers, much like any other wrestler with 'cult' appeal, but there's very few on here, whereas the number of people who seemed to hate her on an unhealthily personal level extended into double figures at one point, yet people still maintained it was her fans who had a problem and were blowing things out of proportion.
Who cares if Nikki beats her reign though, it won't be due to spite if she does. As recently as Elimination Chamber they mentioned her by name as the longest reigning champion, so they're not erasing her from history. I have no beef with Nikki, she's just unlucky to be the face of the division at one of its most lacklustre periods booking-wise, or rather, a time when it looks worse than ever because people have NXT to compare it with.
So, if Sasha's going to be long-term NXT Champ, let's work a Nikki/Sasha feud down at Full Sail.
Let Sasha talk about how NXT women, especially the Boss, outshine anybody up on RAW.
And have Nikki working to show that women who get called up still put in the time and the work and can hang.
Would love this, I just hope WWE is open-minded enough for it to happen. I'd rather them do it on the main roster though, the NXT crowd would be far too partisan toward Sasha, the nominal heel. In a world where Kevin Owens has beaten John Cena clean on a 'special event,' maybe it's not as faint a hope as it once was.
