Personal life aside speaking strictly professionally has any elite athlete ever fallen further faster?

Not while he was still an active cyclist. Sure, but he did try to race after the story came out, he just flopped pretty hard. Woods hasnt' gotten back to where he was, but he did get back to number 1 for a brief period and had some wins.

woods is a WASTE OF SPACE on a golf course ..... ever since he came back FIRST TIME around, he hasn't done anything worthwhile, and quite frankly the embarrassing displays he's put on recently should make him thing really seriously give up the sport permanently!

Has to be Hernandez. At least Tiger isn't a convicted murderer with a likely couple of other victims under his belt.

Tiger Woods hasn't been the same since he stopped banging porn stars. That must have been where he drew his power from.

Could be age catching up with him too, even though golf isn't a sport where growing older significantly correlates to drops in performance.

His on the field stuff did not suffer. His transgressions were off field. If he were to suit up tomorrow he would not be too far off from what his peak was.

Remember how huge Tiger was when he started? Hell, he's one of the most marketable athletes ever. All those people he made interested in golf, all those people who saw him and decided they wanted to play so they worked their asses off, are now on the tour with him. His popularity plays a role in how he's fallen, along with age and injuries.

What pisses me the most off about Tiger is he's not been good or relevant since like 2009 yet that's all people want to talk about on every sports station when they cover golf. There's other golfers that deserve the coverage but can't because we all got to know about Tiger. I know it's not his fault and more the fualt of sports media but god does it make golf coverage rough to watch. I get he was a HUGE deal but his time is up and it's time for someone else to take the spotlight.

Fernando Torres' fall from grace was pretty swift. Went from being one of the world's best strikers to being a punchline in about as long as it took for the £50m cheque Chelsea paid for him to clear.
Granted, he had a bit of success at Chelsea, but was always more of a passenger in that side.
And collectively, Leeds United. Champions League semi-finalists in 2001, relegated to the second tier of English football two seasons later, and relegated to the third tier of English football three seasons after that, and almost going out of business in the process.
