I'm looking at this upcoming Slipknot tour and wondering why in the world they booked Volbeat for this thing. I haven't heard much from them, but what I have heard leads me to believe they're going to be booed off of the stage, certainly when they're going on after Gojira and Behemoth.

I listened to a bunch of their stuff on Spotify since I'm going to one of those shows and I couldn't stand any of it except the song they did with King Diamond (Let's be honest, anything with King Diamond is good). The singer sounds like the count from Sesame Street.

I'm the exact opposite. I love Volbeat but cannot stand Corey Taylor or either of his bands at all.

So this weekend I'm going up to Scotland for the first time, what does that have to do with metal? Just this awesome line-up:

One of my favorites. Epic Doom with a fair amount of Power Metal seasoning.

The Chasm are going on a US tour in June! They're also playing a show in Milwaukee in a few days, and Deathfest in May. Definitely go see them if possible.

Sadly I will be missing that show at NYDM Spring Bash X thanks to work. Which is a shame because Anvil is also on the bill (among others, including co-headliners Evildead and Hirax, Deceased, Carnivore A.D., and local death metal legends Morta Skuld. I got to see them last month as part of Profane's 25th Anniversary show and they're f***ing awesome live).

I have a pretty funny metal story to share:
A few days ago I ran into one of my Literature professors from my college days. He taught World Literature 208 which was primarily a discussion based course and I developed a friendship with him and several other students. We also shared a similar taste in metal bands like Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, Mercyful Fate, etc. However, during class I remember he assigned "Rime of the Ancient Mariner, he stated that there would be an in-depth discussion about the poem so he expected us to read it.
Next class period arrived and no one read the story(myself included). He was very angry in which he assigned a pop quiz on the spot. Everyone else was worried except for me. I knew I didn't read the story but I damn sure knew Iron Maiden's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". Any question he read out I remember replaying the song in my head I used it as a gauge to figure out what part of the song he was at. Needless to say I ended up getting the highest grade in the class that day.
All of the other students kept asking me "Did you read the story?" I would say "Nope". They'd ask "How in the world did you pass the quiz then?!". Knowing they wouldn't believe me and none of them were metal fans to begin with I just said "Lucky guesses I reckon."
During our conversation we shared a laugh regarding that day and he confessed "I figured you were the only one who would pass it since you're a Maiden fan."
Funny how I learned more from an Iron Maiden song in regards to literature and history than I did in an actual classroom setting.
