It makes my head hurt to figure out the reason why HHH felt he needed to go over CM Punk in 2011.

It makes my head hurt to figure out the reason why HHH felt he needed to go over CM Punk in 2011. Because Kevin Nash couldn't be medically cleared. The sight of Nash powerbombing Punk straight to hell and pining him 123 is just hilarious. Because that was the original plan right there. In 2011 Kevin Big Sexy Nash was going to end the summer of punk. This company....

CM Punk in 2011 was just ridiculous. Made no sense to have a part timer beating him so soon after just becoming the most popular and mainstream buzzworthy thing in years.

Angle. Wrestling has never regained the mainstream popularity it had before the HHH/Angle/Steph love triangle fizzled out.
More importantly it set two dangerous precedents: 1) HHH's ego must always come first 2) Gave WWE the idea that it's acceptable to hook fans with a great storyline but not even attempt to provide a satisfying conclusion
See: The Invasion, ECW's return, Summer Of Punk, Nexus, Anonymous GM...

The only reason that Booker T is the right answer is because of the storyline going into the match. Had it been a different story and everything else were the same, he would have been the right choice to go over.
I choose Goldberg, though. The only people who have pinned him are all famously politicians who booked themselves to do it. Quite frankly, maybe outside of tag matches and maybe a few DQs, count outs and tag matches, Goldberg should have retired undefeated.

CM Punk is an obvious choice, but a less obvious, and deserving worker was Eugene. HHH beat the shit out of Eugene on Raw so bad, the Eugene character was dead in the water, instantly. What should have happened next was Nick Dinsmore, Eugene's twin brother, should have shown up the following Raw looking for revenge. HHH/Dinsmore could have been one of the most intense, and interesting, feuds of that era. A horribly wasted opportunity.

2011 CM Punk is another choice. The summer of Punk was derailed heavily due to HHH and his ego.

The Booker story was godawful, but HHH going over Punk in 2011 was just ridiculous. One of the biggest missed opportunities WWE's had in quite some time.

I kind of wish Lesnar just finished HHH off at Summerslam 2012 and that was it.
3 matches on HHH was just an absolute waste. 2 of the 3 matches could've been spent on Orton, Sheamus, Bryan, or even Ziggler at the time.

These topics should really come with a qualifier that already assumes most people are going to vote for Booker, not just because I thing the only instance that comes close to that is Hunner crushing Punk in 2011, but you having people really trying to give reasons why Booker shouldn't have gone over.
I mean, yeah...if Booker was going to take the loss all along maybe Hunner shouldn't have said that...you still have WWE building the shit out of a face, making him look a threat to Hunner...likely having the crowd behind him going in to WM and STILL getting dropped in the exact same manner.
And from remembering damn near everything about that ****ed up booking, it wasn't just Hunner making comments. It was like every other week Hunner and Flair were being racist dicks to Booker, until it began to look more and more like Booker was going to whoop his ass come Mania. He couldn't. So essentially as a black fan, I had to sit through racist assholes be racist to a black wrestler for no reason. I've never bought a WWE PPV since.

Lawler upon explosions going off for fireworks: "See, that reminds of him of home" or something along those lines. Lawler threw in some pretty bad stuff too at the time on commentary.

You don't get faces that over without a great heel. Except at some point re face kind of has to go over or else the formula gets stale really fast. I don't disagree, nor was I a full time viewer at that time (stopped about WM18), but was there worthy heels to keep these faces over? I agree that Trips reign seemed bad, but he made all of these people over...similar to the way Randy was the perfect champ to keep DBry over. I guess I just think that the 10+ year hate is really what they want...

You don't get faces that over without a great heel. You do because HHH wasn't a great heel. Do you think he pointed to himself putting over DB as why he should go over Sting? People hate him...as a character...12 years later in the internet age...what is a greater heel?!

With Booker winning this poll, who is the consensus #2 and #3 guys though? 1. Booker T. 2. CM Punk??? 3. Jeff Hardy? ? Goldberg? Sting?

OK, my 3 choices are Jeff, Booker and RVD, for similar reasons
All of them were due their first big one All of them were red hot All of them hit a big nosed, roid gutted speedbump
I'm knocking Jeff out of the running because his wa part of a 1 year long build to the top, and he actually won the belt 3 months ish later
I think RVD wins this because while Booker was over in 2004, NOONE was more over than RVD in 2001/2. Booker only took 2 years after that to reach his high point, but RVD's minute in the sun took another 4, and an injury in the middle that lost him a lot of his momentum, and left him never really as good in ring afterward.
Also Punk, while definitely the biggest Wallbanger of the lot, is disqualified because his ruining factors were Vince himself and John "I'm main eventing every single PPV while you're champ" Cena
