Summer of Punk.
Up to Money in the Bank 2011 was perfect. After that, it started to work with Vince being fired, and Triple H being placed in charge. After McMahon gets fired, Triple H states that they are negotiating with CM Punk on his return. But in the event that CM Punk won't return, they are going to have a month long WWE Championship tournament. Have 16 men, include some of the lower card, building up that there is a chance that they could become WWE Champion.
Have the Finals at SummerSlam. Let Cena win again. But for a month, in the interviews, have the interviewer keep reminding him that he did not beat the actual WWE Champion for the belt, as CM Punk isn't there. It eats at Cena, even though he tries not to let it. Then, at Night of Champions, Cena defends the belt for the first time, and after winning, we see this:
Then they have a match at Hell in a Cell to determine, and to quote Flair, "The REAL WWE Champion." But shenanigans ensue, as interference causes the match to be thrown out. So they try again at Vengeance, but once again, more shenanigans. So finally, they finish it once and for all at Survivor Series, and Punk walks out the WWE Champion.
Also, we cut out Nash, and Triple H getting a win of any sort. Because they were pointless in this whole thing. Keep Laurinaitis, though. Have him be McMahon's personal choice for his replacement.

I remember reading news last year, I think just after Wrestlemania, about how WWE officials knew Cesaro was really hot right now but was "saving his big push for later" or some stupid shit. It was supposedly because they were already locked in to pushing Reigns as the top up and coming face and the stories would've been too similar. That's why Cesaro got stuck as Heyman's afterthought. Because heaven forbid you have two fan favorites getting pushed up at the same time and potentially build to a match between them at a big PPV that people would want to see, to determine which one of the break out stars truly is ready for that next level. Absolutely ridiculous.

Goldberg shouldve won the title at Summerslam 2003 but they killed his momentum and later got exposed how bad he was as a wrestler.

Pretty much every hot angle they've had in the last...5 years or so. Some of it is for stuff out of their control but much more of it just boils down to incompetence. This. My mind flooded with time and time, instance after instance, and I thought "isn't this what they're known for? The Brock Lesnar ripple? Being afraid to strike while the iron is hot?" and then by time someone has "earned their push" it's far too late, and the lack of common sense leaves them to not only wonder why, but to do it all over again with someone else. (also throw in the reasoning why there can't be more than one big superstar at a time...wouldn't you want to make like 4 or 5 Cena level guys? )

1) Daniel Bryan Yeah, how pathetic was the WWE with this one? The arrogance they displayed here was shocking.
2) Kofi Kingston I honestly think he could have been bigger than John Cena. During his feud with Randy Orton he was incredibly over and the reaction at SSeries when he beat CM Punk and Randy Orton to win the match was such a star-making performance and feeling that I can't believe they gave up on it. He's just as good as Cena on the mic, as the same crowd pleasing moves and is a better wrestler too in my book. I'd have had Kofi win the Rumble in 2010 honestly and maybe win the belt from Cena at Mania.
3) Christian In 2005 he was on fire with the crowds. In fact the fans would have accepted him as a main eventer at any time really.
4) RVD When HHH pedigrees him in the 2002 Rumble and he has to sell it like death for 2 minutes before the next entrant enters and eliminates him you can almost hear the sound of his push deflating. What were they thinking? Idiots.
5) CM Punk How do you ruin something so simple as that angle in 2011?
6) Wade Barrett The only man who's made Cena over as a face and you don't run with it?
7) Chris Jericho In mid 2000 Jericho was pretty much your #2 babyface before Austin returned and they didn't give him the main event run. Then Rock leaves and Austin turns heel and who's your top babyface? A dreadful Undertaker and the fans tune out. Had they elevated Jericho sooner as a top babyface maybe some viewers wouldn't have left due to the lack of starpower?
8) Dean Ambrose I honestly thought he was going to to be a main event babyface during his first feud with Seth. Sadly for him we needed to put Bray over so he could put Undertaker over and get him ready for his main event run and Dean was jumped in the pecking order by him and other promosing rookies like Sting and Lesnar.
9) Fandango Why would you not push him? Why?! And changing the music? Ugh.
10) Damien Sandow/Zack Ryder Have their ever been two men who've had their careers ruined on purpose as much as these two?

Was'nt he scheduled to be IC champion before his concussion? Idk. I think Curtis Axel was always going to be inserted into that match and walk out with the IC Title whether Fandango was injured or not. They were really committed in pushing Axel as a hopeless loser who flunked his way to victory. And I think he was already starting to lose steam after Jericho got his win back for the explicit purpose of transferring Fandango's heat to Ryback. Curtis Axel didn't debut until after Fandango got injured.

RVD comes in for the Invasion and is immediately over with crowds, he gets a token triple threat main event. Instead of being the break out star of the biggest angle of all time, every big name is brought in ahead of him and he stays a midcarder for 5 years till he gets a shot. Admittedly he blew it, but if they'd given him a run earlier when he was at peak popularity and Sabu was no where to be seen so he might have been able to keep his head on straight a bit longer. They just had Undertaker destroy his momentum, because he enjoyed doing that to people at the time (see everyone during the Invasion and then the Hardyz post Invasion). He should have been close to the main event at Mania, not wrestling Regal in a pointless Euro title match. Also, along with Ambrose, Ziggler was sizzling hot in November/December of last year and they used it basically for Cena pops and nothing else. That was pretty disgraceful.

Having so many PPV's is a big cause of it. They always think "we can delay the big moment until the next PPV.....or the one after that....or the one after that" in a desperate attempt to hype up some meaningless forgettable PPV instead of just building to the organic culmination.

Edge at the start of 2006. Does the cash-in at New Year's Revolution and gets actual interest back in the show. Not to mention getting fans to genually start cheering for Cena. This could have been a big-time WrestleMania match.
But, no. HHH wanted his main event spotlight. So Edge loses the title back to Cena 2 weeks later, throwing all that potential away.

Sheamus. He won the breakthrough battle royal, and threw cena through the table like a monster. Then they had the tables match and he just beat out cena for the title.
Then they booked him like a chicken shit heel who got lucky against cena and then he ran away from Nexus like a bitch, screaming for cena's help. That killed his momentum dead. Instead of being the Doomsday that beat Cena's Superman, he became a joke who wore a goofy crown and loses to Evan bourne.

Them taking ages to put the WWE Title on Jeff Hardy in 08, after countless loses to Edge and HHH over a year of build up. The payoff and match was great at Armaggedon 2008 though. An underrated triple threat match and a geat celebration for Jeff at the end of the PPV/SD If I remember he never really did beat HHH. That one win was treated as a fluke

Mizdow. Dude was crazy over and they waited... and waited.... and waited to do the Miz feud, and instead of wrestling at WM, they throw them both in the Andre Battle Royal... And don't even have Mixdow win! The freaking blow off to the feud was a match on Raw for the Miz gimmick and it didn't even go 10 minutes and ended with Summer Rae costing Mizdow the win. Next he gets that obnoxious copycat gimmick for a few weeks before turning into Mandow and now he's nowhere to be seen.
Granted I think he's absolutely nothing special in the ring, but he works every shit gimmick he gets and got one wayyyy over. He should have at least gotten an IC Title feud by now.

Cena fell backwards on a table and Sheamus just looked up surprised and grabbed the title.
