FAN - 2013: "One of the worst things a heel can get is X-Pac Heat. The whole purpose of being a heel is getting the crowd to want to see you get your ass kicked, but you can't draw money if the crowd doesn't wanna see you get your ass kicked!"
FAN - 2015: "Oh, who cares if they're getting X-Pac Heat from the crowd? They're getting heat after all, so they must be doing something right!"
Can someone explain to me when this shift in attitude towards X-Pac Heat happened? It seemed like this general thing that we all agreed was bad for years just suddenly got flipped around into being a positive.

It isn't a good thing.
It's just that some fans don't understand that concept.

When a heel makes me say "I want to see him get what's coming to him" that's good heel heat. I'd pay to see him get his comeuppance. That's good for the company.
When a heel (or shitty face) makes me say "get off my TV, I don't find you talented or compelling" that's XPac heat and it's bad. I wouldnt pay to see XPac because I can't connect with him and don't want to see him.

I don't necessarily think it's a good thing, but it can be spun as "a heel reaction is a heel reaction". Apathy is the real way to send a message.

When kayfabe died and most heels are cheered 'because I respect their heel work' ya pretty much. when heels are more likely to get cheered for being good at their job, you gotta find another way to make the crowd hate you.

Yeah. People talk about how The Miz does the best heel work with his current persona, and while he does play his character well; he really gets heat because there's still a large segment of the fanbase who refuse to accept that Miz is actually a competent performer.

perfect heel right now is dana brooke
green but pushed, has an athletic background(BUT NOT THE RIGHT KIND OF ATHLETIC BACKGROUND), embraces total divas branding when all the faces are distancing themselves from it, character is actually an awful person rather than unlikable but quirky(new day, intellectual savior damien sandow)

When kayfabe died and most heels are cheered 'because I respect their heel work' Also doesn't they'll that once WWE failed to get Cena majority face cheers, they started pushing "As long as you're making noise" as an acceptable reaction to a character. Now any boos means go away heat while cheers deserve a WM main event push. People seem to have forgotten there is a middle ground.

It started when they stopped being able to make faces likeable or heels hated. The Bryan vs HHH feud in the last few weeks before Mania XXX was perfect and had nobody booing Bryan or cheering on HHH.
They can do it again, but it takes more effort than they are willing to put in.

The Bryan vs HHH feud in the last few weeks before Mania XXX was perfect and had nobody booking Bryan or cheering on HHH. I still say that booking was also done for the smart fans, because of COURSE it wouldn't take much to think HHH would win the first match and then win the title that night. It got people invested, because a triple-threat of HHH, Orton, and Batista for the title was a nightmare. For me, Steph and Nikki get "Get the hell off of my TV heat." Like, I will not watch anything with either of them two on it. By the same token, I love watching the Miz get his ass kicked, because it is hilarious and entertains me.

By making the heel unentertaining, and causing fans to change the channel? Not only is that not making WWE any money, that isn't WWE's intention when they're booking these heels. That's just WWE determined to force the "right" crowd reaction. It's better to have a heel that gets cheered, than a heel that the crowd thinks actually sucks. At least you know people are going to pay to see the heel that's actually entertaining.

Also, can threads stop acting like FAN is a borg and we all have collective thoughts and feel the exact same way about stuff? I never said the original statement in my entire life. If you want a discussion, cool, but don't bring out Mr. Strawman from the OP.

I haven't noticed this shift at all.
The same amount of people seem to think its either A) not a real thing ("heat is heat") B) a bad thing ("change the channel heat") C) a good thing ("they're still getting over!")
I haven't seen an overwhelming majority of people really weighing in on it being a good thing lately.

There's no such thing as a heel anymore. The fans cheer the "cool guys" regardless of the storyline. The faces normally get booed cause WWE wouldn't know what's cool and relatable if it slapped them in the face.
In Vinces mind, "Forced Stand up comedy and poop jokes" are what makes a cool face. And a bad guy is usually someone with natural swagger and arrogance. No wonder guys like Rollins, Punk, Owens, etc get cheered. They're not forced.

That is a big part of it,thought it works at many times. Just see Rollins vs Ambrose, classic wrestling face and heel dynamic. And it worked very well And then there is cases where it works very well( Since New Day return they managed to keep heel heat for a long time) before part of the crowd started cheering. Cena character is so god awful thought that most of the times if it is someone with personality, part of the crowd will cheer said person. And of course terrible overall face writing ,not just Cena

nobody understands what X-pac heat is anymore. if your presence tells the viewing audience its time to take a piss break, if people actively change the channel because they don't want to watch you, if people won't pay money to watch you get your ass kicked or buy products with your face on it, it doesn't matter if you're "getting a reaction". x-pac heat transcends wrestling, it's a basic economic concept. why do you think Shia Laboeuf stopped appearing in everything?
people like Nikki Bella and Sheamus getting "get the f*** off my tv" heat hinder the product and continuing to push them when they don't make you any money is flat out ridiculous. mind, that's nothing new, Vince had that big man-crush on proven non-draw Shawn Michaels for years.
