Yikes, the Nats 2015 just keeps getting worse. And hiring Dusty would be the cherry on top of a shit sundae.

The thing with Dusty is he has actually been to the World Series once and has been to the playoffs with each of the three teams he has managed. Bud Black, on the other hand, doesn't exactly have a good track record with getting his teams to the playoffs at all. I think if you look at it, Baker is probably the better choice of the two.

Dusty on the other hand has left behind a trail of young pitchers that he destroyed, most notably Kerry Wood and Mark Prior.

Dusty is officially the new Nats manager.
As someone on twitter said, looks like their managerial search got a Dusty Finish.
Now I feel slightly better about the Mets' chances next year.

If you collect baseball cards, you may want to look at unloading your top cards of current Nationals pitchers. And those pitchers may just want to slam their arms in car doors, because that won't be as bad as what Dusty's going to do them.

Short of the team blowing up, I'd expect the Mets to repeat in 2016 as NL East Champs.

Read an interesting article earlier that suggested Dusty may have learned about overusing his pitchers. www.mlbdailydish.com/2015/11/3/9663674/nationals-manager-offseason-dusty-baker-bud-blackThere it is, basically, he's been around the league average in pitches per game the last few years. Compared to of course when he was a manager of the Cubs. I wasn't enamored with Bud Black, he got a lot of ink for a guy who has never made the playoffs and finished with just 2 winning teams in 8 seasons. I think Baker is a solid hire, if he can get through Bonds, he'll get through Harper. I still think the Nats are the favorites in the East next season...if the rumors of the Mets moving on from Murphy (he had one week where he was in God mode, but no way are you giving a soon to be 31 year old $75 million over 5 years) and Cespedes are true, then we're back to square one with the Mets not being able to score runs.

Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports that the Mets and manager Terry Collins have agreed to a two-year contract extension.

It suggests he's learned, but let's see if that's the case next August when an MRI of Stephen Strasburg's elbow ligaments looks like the Guns 'N Roses "Spaghetti Incident" album cover.

The Red Sox have picked up the $13 million option on Clay Buchholtz for 2016.
If he's on the back of the rotation, then I'm fine with it. If he's your 1 or 2 starter? Well......*fart noise*

He's already had Tommy John so his arm is already fixed up, doubtful Baker will get flamed for that should something happen

In baseball today, a truly elite ace starting pitcher can command $30 million annually on the open market. Zack Greinke would have been foolish to continue to pitch for $23.6 million annually when he in all likelihood will receive $30 million annually or more in free agency this winter. Although he's 32 years old, starting pitchers with sub-2.00 ERAs and 200-plus strikeouts don't grow on trees. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see someone offer him a contract in the neighborhood of five years, $150 million. The Red Sox have picked up the $13 million option on Clay Buchholtz for 2016. If he's on the back of the rotation, then I'm fine with it. If he's your 1 or 2 starter? Well......*fart noise* Sort of spinning off of my Greinke talking point, with the way contracts for starting pitchers have been skewed over the last half decade or so, $13 million for Clay Buchholz is a fairly appropriate sum. I'd obviously love to see him get through a season from start to finish without some minor injury ending his year, but he had a very good 2015 season with a 3.26 ERA and 107 Ks in 113 innings before an injury curtailed his campaign. $13 million for a guy who could (conceivably) get you a 3.50-ish ERA and about 160 strikeouts is about market value today. I agree on your second point, that regardless of how much he's being paid, in no way should he enter the season as the Red Sox' ace or no. 2 starter. The Red Sox need to back up the Brinks truck to the home of David Price, then trade prospects for Sonny Gray or (ohpleaseohpleaseohplease) Chris Sale, and enter 2016 with a starting rotation of Price, Gray/Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez, Clay Buchholz, Rick Porcello. As long as Rodriguez progresses and doesn't regress into a sophomore slump, that should be a pitching staff that - combined with Boston's offense - should be enough to compete in, if not win, the AL East.
