Personally, I couldn't care less about building a house or customizing weapons and armor. It's nice to have on the side, but not a huge draw for me. Also, that's customization, not roleplaying. Playing as a voiced generic guy who sounds nothing like me and already has a wife and a kid, eh...that's inherently limiting. I don't see how you couldn't at least see where people are coming from on that, as I think it's glaringly obvious. New Vegas gave me a blank slate with the courier and I was up and at 'em in like five minutes. That's all I wanted. I could be an old ass man, I could be a young gun, or anything in between, and my backstory was completely up to me. I'm still not sure what the problem is supposed to be. Fallout 3 also gave the player character a rather elaborate backstory and that didn't hinder roleplaying. Hell, you could argue the same for Fallout 1 and especially 2. I get your perspective. But here's mine--particularly on the difference between Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. 1) There was no voice acting in those for the player character. You could imagine the voice--now you can't. So that's one thing that's taken from your imagination. 2) In Fallout 3 you did have a pretty elaborate back story--but you could control your character from birth and play through important events in his/her life. So from the very beginning, you were able to mold your character. Now you're being thrown into a character who already has a spouse, a kid, and a background. 3) Fallout New Vegas--from a role-playing/character building perspective--was Caesar's Legions better than Fallout 3 (Partly due to being made by Obsidian). You were given a character that was pretty much a blank slate, beyond the events of the very beginning of the game. As stated earlier, the character in Fallout 4 does not appear to be a blank slate at all. It's like the difference between Dragon Age and Dragon Age 2. Yeah, you could change certain things about Hawke, but she/he was not near the blank slate that The Warden was in the first Dragon Age. This portrayal seems (and I keep using that word because it could work out great) to be a step backwards from Fallout New Vegas and, most recently, Skyrim (another game where you're a blank slate). This seems to be closer to playing as Link in the Legend of Zelda than it is to playing The Courier or the Dragonborn. (Slight hyperbole) --- But yeah, it would all work out great. Though certainly you can see why some people would be a little wary of this--even if you don't agree with it.

Pre ordered... I'm hoping they don't deviate too much from the original formula I worried about the opposite, that the gameplay and environments will be too similar to 3.

The pre-loading is now complete. Tuesday can't come fast enough. When it's up, I'll make sure to get you guys screenshots ASAP. Do you know if the launch takes place at the exact same time worldwide or is it activated time zone by time zone? Because if it's the later, I could give most of you an early sneak peak. Assuming I don't forget to stop, of course.

I really looking forward to any crazy side missions I may come across while exploring the wasteland. Hopefully there is a Cheers themed cult or something. 'Where Everybody Knows Your Name' mission added A bar full of ghouls who have been drinking buddies since the bombs dropped? Hell yes.

Pre-ordered on the PS4 ages ago. Quite annoying to read about how everyone else has already pre-loaded their game while I'm just sitting here with shitty internet and a countdown to a game I haven't even started downloading yet because they hate Australia.
Seriously, let us pre-download our pre-ordered game! They already took the money out.
Edit: Now I've heard it might not be out even by Launch. The f*** is happening.

I've been hearing the frame rate is horrendous on PS4. The return of the Skyrim save bloat glitch, now without the need to save!

My body is ready for the skin-tight lycra jumpsuit. Got it through GMG here in the UK, 20% off - preload done. Just the day 1 patch now, right

Absolutely loved fallout 3, but apart from the odd screenshot I've not seen much of the new one. Could someone kindly sum up the new features/selling points?

I really hope I can get my paycheck early, escape from work early, get on the MRT quickly and get to the shops before they sell out (that's the big difficulty). I finish work at 6.00, won't get to the shops until 7ish so fear I may be too late....
I can't wait. I've been excited for a new Fallout game since New Vegas. The one thing I'm not sold on is the location. Las Vegas, Washington... both really famous places with iconic landmarks. Boston... I know nothing about Boston so exploring won't have the same impact as say, finally arriving at the strip or going up the Washington monument.

Customizable armour and weapons by scavenging spare parts, being able to build your own buildings and even start settlements which you can then fortify (in case of Raiders/monster attack), have caravans trade between, etc, fully voiced player characters with dynamic dialogue trees no level cap, being able to keep playing even after the end game. Those are the main ones as far as I can recall. Oh and outside the gamee proper, Bethesda will release a free mod tool to help people create new content.

I think I'll use a female character this time around as I used a male for both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Come to think of it, the only other Fallout game I played a woman before was 2. I also think I'll try and make my character and her husband look as different a spossible to see what kind of mix we can get for the kid.
Also, I hope the game runs decently on my computer. I don't particularly care about having the highest settings so hopefully it will at least run smoothly if I turn down some stuff.
Also also, I just read that apparently, you can also change your character's body type, so you can have a skinny, fat or ripped character if you want. That's really nice because I found it weird that in Fallout 3 and New Vegas, it seemed like if you weren't either a ghoul or mutant, then you were a ridiculously fit and attractive person despite living in an irradiated environment full of dangerous beasts and raiders with very little healthcare available.

A Bethesda game, having issues? I am shocked. Touche. Especially since, looking into it, it seems the game is just that classic Bethesda buggy as hell at launch game as usual. Oh well, at least I decided to wait on this game, so hopefully most of the bugs will be squashed by the time I get it.
