I don't see Inside Out making it. I think the academy will relegate it to the animation category to focus on more "Traditional" nominations. I'd love for it to be in the running but, I don't see it. Hell, I think Mad Max will be pushing it for some on the academy
I think if a movie has nothing backing it in the non-technical categories and has been absent from a lot of the precursor award nominations' lists, they're a long shot at best by this point. I can't say they're done for because in a year like this, no one is completely out of it until tomorrow morning.

My predicted list: Spotlight (front runner to win IMO) The Revenant (Given the DiCaprio buzz this is pretty much a lock), The Big Shot (filling the dramedy/ David O Russell* spot) Bridge of Spies (It's a historical drama directed by Spielberg staring Tom Hanks. That's basically porn to the AMPAS), Inside Out (Animated! Pixar! It will never win but it's a film the average film viewer saw), Mad Max Fury Road (ditto. plus it's been critically acclaimed so it fits as an "arty" action movie so the AMPAS doesn't have to feel bad about nominating it),Brooklyn (outside shot but I really liked it. I do think it may get in as the "small story" movie pick this year) The Martian (because it won the Golden Globe), The Hateful Eight (I'm running out of reasons now. I just see it happening. It's more I don't see the others on the list making it) Star Wars The Force Awakens (remember last year when Birdman won and no one watched? Now I loved Birdman but a lot of people didn't. So what better way to get people to watch then by stringing them into thinking Star Wars could win Best Picture? It won't but I bet people would watch the telecast to see if it did. In the end that's what really matters)
*I know David O Russell didn't direct The Big Shot. But I think it has a better chance at a nod then the mop movie.

The Hateful Eight, unfortunately has zero momentum during this awards season. Momentum plays a bigger part in nominations than you may think. Also, does the Academy really care all that much if nobody watched last year? Sure, ABC probably shit their pants after seeing the numbers but, I don't think the Academy saw that as their concern. I think the people who are voting/hoping for Star Wars to make it are wanting it to get in rather than genuinely predicting it will. It's complete wishful thinking. That coming from a massive SW fan.

Trumbo is definitely not getting nominated. It has zero backing in anything but actor. Most SAG Award Noms AND a movie about Old Hollywood. I don't know...the Academy eats that up! Every year, there's an "Amour" or an "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" that comes out of nowhere...I think it's Trumbo this year (and not completely from nowhere...just surprising). It's the double edged sword of 10 possible nominees. But yeah, it's at least getting nods for Best Actor (Bryan Cranston) & Best Supporting Actress too (Helen Mirren). ...and I just thought the film was f***ing great LOL

For the second year in a row, not a single person of color was nominated for a Oscar in a acting category. Ok for anybody about to say oh why are you bringing race into this, well here's why. 1 year might be a coincidence but 2 years in a row is something different. This feels wrong on many levels and what really bugs me is that it isn't like this year isn't full of great acting performances from people of color. Will Smith, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael. B. Jordan. The cast of Straight Outta Comp(which was totally snubbed) and that's just the people I know. That's not including black women, Latino actors, Asian actors, etc. It's just disgusting and tiring to see that actors of color not getting the chances they deserve in the industry and when they get the chance and knock it out the park, that they don't get the recognition they deserve.

Wow, no best picture nom for Carol. I thought that was gonna be a lock. That shocked the hell out of me. I know there were reports of voters dragging their feet on the movie but man, I did not think it would be enough to snub it. And yeah, not even Idris Elba was nominated. That's not good. If Chris Rock has any of his old self left, he hammers them in his monologue for all those old, stuffy, f****** to hear.

The fact Creed wasn't nominated pisses me off to no end. That was by far the best movie I saw last year.
Shocked Mad Max was. Haven't seen it yet, but heard good things.

I'm happy that Spotlight, Revenant and Fury Road got Best Picture noms, but Inside Out not getting considered is some BULL. I know it's a lock for Best Animated Film, but I hope it can take Original Screenplay also at least.
Then again, I think Big Hero 6 was also snubbed for Best Picture last year (along with A Most Violent Year) so my Disney markdom may be causing some bias.

The Peanuts Movie got left out of best animated film. ;( That is insane considering Shaun the Sheep is on there. The AMC Oscar Showcase might be a good idea this year for me, the only one I've seen is Mad Max.

Will Smith was poorly miscast and the acting was serviceable in SOC. The 2 black actors who were royally snubbed were Abraham Attah and Ibris Elba from Beasts Of No Nation. And the amount of really talented African American women who can only get big roles in Tyler Perry films is kind of shocking. It would be like if Meryl Streep or Laura Linney could only get roles in Kevin Smith or Michael Bay films. In that regard tv is way ahead of film were roles are more reflective of everyone in the population being including and the casts looking truly like a melting pot like America.

Creed deserved more love than it got. Michael B Jordan and Phylicia Rashad were outstanding in it.
I'm really surprised about Fury Road, for reasons I've stated before. I know the press loved it but I'm surprised a straight action movie got a nom.
I predicted six of them, I believe.

I totally disagree about Will Smith. I really really enjoyed him in Concussion even though his accent was spotty. I think Jason Mitchell could have gotten a Oscar nomination for supporting actor.

Why is Mad Max nominated? It's just an action movie Much like Avatar and Inception it was nominated to drive ratings I'd guess. No way does it win Also, shocked at the lack of Creed nominations other then Sly

The Peanuts Movie got left out of best animated film. ;( I am outright pissed about this. This movie, I felt, could have won the Oscar or at least made a decent run at it. Absolute bullshit of the highest caliber.

Not surprised Mad Max got nominated. It's a visual artsy film with themes of feminism while being a throwback to westerns in terms of landscape shots and minimal dialogue and a throwback film that uses practical effects for stunts rather than CGI. Also Mad Max has influenced an entire genre of Post Apocalyptic genre. It's the same reason why I think Stallone will win this year so one of the most iconic movie characters has an oscar attached to its name. Plus George Miller is a respected film director who is an Academy darling when he's making kids films like Babe and Happy Feet.
