The great 'Going Clear' not nominated for best documentary. Should say it all about Hollywood right?

I've heard that if "Going Clear" is nominated for an Oscar, John Travolta might boycott the show and not embarrass Idina Menzel for a third time.

Kinda irked that Leo's probably gonna win Best Actor for the Revenant when he should've won one for the Wolf of Wall Street. Just irked in general to see so many noms for the Revenant.

I'm so impossibly happy that "Mad Max: Fury Road" is receiving the credit its due. As a fan of big, loud, bombastic action movies, "Fury Road" may have been the biggest, loudest, most bombastic of them all. I don't go to movies to be moved emotionally, I don't pay $10 for a ticket to have my thoughts provoked, I go to sit down, kick my feet back, turn my brain off, and watch s**t explode and that's what "Fury Road" is. It's right up there with "Con Air" and "Commando" among my personal favorite popcorn action movies.

Stallone's nominated for the same character he was nominated for playing 40 years ago and John Williams is nominated for the same franchise he was nominated and won for 39 years ago.

As if the Academy would have had the conviction to nominate a documentary about Scientology.
Outside of Mad Max as best picture, everything else was nice and safe.

I know people have tried to put their own view or interpretation into it and that's perfectly fine. The big one has been that the movie was this strong voice for the feminist movement. I didn't see it personally but that's just my point of view. I saw a rock-em sock-em no-holds-barred rip-roaring action movie that happened to star women in leading roles. Which honestly is no big deal. The presence of women in leading roles in "Mad Max" neither added nor detracted from my movie-going experience.

Wow, no best picture nom for Carol. I thought that was gonna be a lock. It just is not in the cards. I think it pushes too many buttons the Academy isn't ready to push. That said, it's a phenomenonal achievement in film. Much better effort from Haynes than Far From Heaven. I still have a few issues with some plot plasticity and this guy. But Rooney Mara puts in one of the top acting performances of the entire year. Brilliance by her. And the film itself is quite brilliant at times despite a few "Haynes-isms" that I take issue with.

Man Beasts of No Nation got done raw. A movie distibuted by Netflix and a bunch of voters the same age as most peoples Grandpa. What could possibly go wrong? A lot of people getting up in arms about the nominations and this right here is likely the main issue. Same issue the Academy faced in the 70s - too many old people voting on popular culture issues. They wont vote for films that didnt impact them, or that they didnt understand because it was from a cultural perspective not their own.

Man Beasts of No Nation got done raw. Did it have a theatrical release? That's the qualifier, right?
