So comrades, who was the best? Nikolai Volkoff? Boris Zhukov? Ivan Koloff? Kozlov? Rusev and Lana? Personally, I pick Rusev but give props to Kozlov's 2nd theme.

Rusev ain't even Russian. Character wise, he was for a while. Hell, most of the people listed never been in Russia much less of Russian decent in real life. But their characters are.

Volkoff is Yugoslavian. Still have to go with him as far as being the most recognizable.
No love for Alexis Smirnoff?

I really don't like calling Rusev Russian just for how outdated that style of thinking/gimmicking is, no matter how much he was able to run with it. Granted, Kozlov isn't actually Russian either, but his gimmick was always Russian versus starting out Bulgarian and being reclassified as Russian/Soviet for the cheap heat.
And I agree, there's definitely something stupidly catchy about JA. BRING YOUR STUPID BALL!

Actually, when he was born Bulgaria was considered a satellite state of the USSR and supported them during the Cold War.

Easily Rusev for me but I thought Kozlov had an awesome look. Also a shout to my favorite hooligan Alex Koslov who got squashed by Del Rio so he counts.

HE was never portrayed Russian, they claimed he was residing in Russia but he was always stated to be Bulgarian. (Lana still referred to him as the Bulgarian Brute even at his mist ain't Putin Great phase.)

It was more difficult for them to make him Russian as they did to the others in the poll (most of whom are from various E European countries) because he has the Bulgarian flag tattooed on his arm. I wonder if they ever suggested to him to remove it or cover it up when the gimmick got going. Rusev then Volkoff for me, Koslov came along a bit too early he's one of those types with potential for whom a spot of seasoning in the PC and NXT (much like Corbin is getting now) would have done the world of good.

Rusev is the best person on the list, but he shouldn't count as Russian.

Doesn't the Russian Nightmare Nikita Koloff count since the e owns nwa/wcw? He's pulled it off the best. "RUSSIAN SICKLE!"

The man who beat Bruno Sammartino cleanly to end his 2,803 day streak as WWWF World Heavyweight Champion.
Seriously, what other (kayfabe) Russian in wrestling can claim something that big?

Gotta go with the French-Canadian who beat Bruno. He's a short little squirt, but he sounds mean, is ruthless with a chain, and even has the hammer & sickle tattooed on his arm.
Dedication to his gimmick, thy name is Ivan.
