Seeing as how back in the 80s Hogan was WWF and Flair was NWA/WCW. Cena has been WWE for over a decade and AJ has been doing his own thing probably being the #1 guy in wrestling not in WWE for a good number of years. Now that AJ is WWE bound this match up has to happen surely.

I don't think there is a potential modern day version of that.

Not on the same level but probably the closest we'll get to it.

Of course they are. It's not on the same level because business as a whole isn't on the same level but yes, it definitely counts for our current generation.

In that it might underperform and leave everyone involved disappointed, maybe.
Hogan and Flair came later and weaker than people had hoped for. AJ and Cena would probably have good matches, but they're both getting older and more hurt. It's possible it'll let folks down.

I'd like to see it but I doubt the majority of the WWE Universe knows who AJ Styles is. Debut him in Mudlick, Kentucky and everybody would be like

You don't think, from a match-by-match week-to-week standpoint that 2015 was the strongest year of both Cena and Styles' careers?

It's not like like they'll now suck because it's a new year.

Yeah, Cena would refuse to put AJ over cleanly too.

Both guys for different reasons had a lot to prove, between Cena trying to get over the whole US open idea and AJ being a hot act, but Cena's out and I'm getting increasingly worried both guys might be pushing themselves harder than their body can match up to at this stage. I'd rather be wrong, but it's rough.

I'd rather have have Tanahashi vs Cena its a real life Goku vs Superman...except I have a feeling Thor (HHH) will destroy them both

People are overreacting. The OP isn't saying Cena and Styles are on the same level as Hogan and Flair. He's speaking on the basis that both guys have been the top stars of their respective companies and have yet to face each other. In that regard, it's possible. I'm just not sure who's been the top guy from TNA or the indys, but Styles is a candidate
