Wouldn't mind a prequel showing John in Dutch's gang and what lead to the events of him quitting, perhaps a scene with his daughter as well. Honestly I'd way rather have the sequel be nearly if not entirely unrelated. Leaves open a lot more story possibilities.

Which is why I think having one set during the gold rush in Victoria would be great, we had a massive history of bushrangers and you could even get your own Ned Kelly armor or something like that.

That would be awesome. Set it during the height of the British Empire in Africa and it would be incredible. I'd love to shoot giraffes. *mauled by giraffe*

Undoubtedly one of my all time favourite games - the attention to detail is exquisite, be it from the scenery to the wildlife to the townsfolk going about their business. I loved how each moment in the game was 'yours' i.e. you get attacked by some wolves in the desert, just as the sun is setting. Once you've killed them there's nothing but silence, save for a few bird calls, and it's only you and your horse silhouetted against the setting sun.
Personally, I used to enjoy travelling from town to town, as you could appreciate the scenery and something would always happen en route that would net you some money. The ending did throw me a bit, and ideally I'd have liked to end the game as John Marston. However, in terms of scope, gameplay, detail, voice acting, variety of missions, depth and ambition, this game is one of the absolute finest. Good work, Rockstar.

I can only echo what you lot say, brilliant game, easily in my top 3 of all time. Once, if ever, it becomes backwards compatible on XBox One I'll give it another play through

It was the game that convinced me to get into the then-current generation of gaming, and helped distract me from easily the worst relationship break-up of my life.
I replayed it last year in an attempt to get to 100% completion. Have up at around 96%, but loved every last second of it.

I never fast traveled a single time. Not once. Games like that, I tend to play them out as if there is a void in the "reality" of the storyline if I skip something.
Always played with Honor. Got Legend of the West status early enough that the West Elizabeth missions were way manageable. Blowing through missions didn't cheapen the game for me. I played it out in my head that it just seemed like John had more drive to him the closer her got to solidifying a family he always wanted.
Also, the first Rockstar game I ever cared to 100 percent complete. I love the environment.
Never got mauled by a cougar. But I laughed that it is a meme because I did get ambushed by them, but I usually popped a medicine bottle and blew their brains out for their trouble.
All that said, I was playing at a severe handicap. The game is glitched beyond all ****. I had to MASH the controller forward with all the power I have in order to get John to move forward. The game would ALWAYS make him move away from his POV and run or walk back toward the camera. Started happening at 46 percent completion. I don't think I've ever yelled at a game more in my life. If he was I horseback, it was fine. But if he was on the ground, you had to fight with everything you had to get him to go the direction you wanted him to. Crouching behind objects became impossible.
Toughest tasks: --Fort Mercer assault the first couple of times. --killing a bear with a knife, which is stupid because it is supposed to be easy, I suppose, but I was doing that late one night and with zero patience. You never see animals when you NEED to see them in this game. See also the glitch mentioned above.
Hooray for no Zero-type missions. That made the game for me.
The films were one of my favorite parts. So much "oh geez" factor.

Ah, yes. The glitches. I never had it as bad as you, but there was more than one time I'd be in mid battle, and then John would suddenly be walking in the sky. To add insult to injury, he'd then realise he was walking in the sky (as if it was me who made him go there!) and plummet to his death. To a certain extent, little glitches are part of Rockstar Games' charm - but that's taking it too far!

I've never experienced a glitch in either RDR or Undead Nightmare, which is a pity as I wanted to see Mangars, Womkeys, and Peogles in the wild.

One of the best games ever made. Others in this thread have already explained why.

I've never had any sort of glitches like that, but I have had the un-fun kind, like once in Undead Nightmare I just suddenly froze in place completely unable to move. Game wasn't frozen, stuff happened around me, I just couldn't move myself.

My god, the number of times that game froze on me drove me nuts.

It's amazing how relaxing and soothing it is to just take a horse and ride across the landscape.
Though I must confess, I am also one of the most prolific serial killers in the history of Mexico.

I have to admit it was oddly heartwarming to see the easter egg of the Red Dead book by J. Marston in GTA V. I like to believe that it is canon and perhaps Jack did escape the outlaw life and go on to be an author.

Did you all ever lose any horses (they died?). I felt bad the first time it happened. I lost around four or five (can't remember). What was your weapon of choice? I was the Shofield Revolver, High Impact Pistol and Bolt Action Rifle. (I got mad and went Buffalo Rifle headshot one-shot kill when bear had my son Jack scared.) As always, screw the Machine Gun with honorable hate mention to Gatling Gun. {Spoiler}I'll never know if in your last Marston scene, if you have a chance to headshot the main fed guy out of the line of Feds that await you outside the barn. I killed a guy, but it happened so fast, I just went for what I could.
Also, I had no spoilers or anything when I played. Did anyone think the storyline was going in the direction of eventually having you make a choice between Abigail and Bonnie? I think it was pretty perfect as it turned out, but I was getting the vibe that late-game challenges were going to pit my inner emotions into conflict. If so, if things had played out a little differently, what decision would you have made?

That song and the scene that goes with it is one of the few times a video game has really got me, emotionally speaking

In my head canon, John survived and founded Standard Oil.

Isn't it just? Get on your horse, travel from town to town and take in the sights. Of course, the game may throw random violence at you, but a gamer's gotta do what a gamer's gotta do. I have the same experience with the GTA games; sometimes it's good just to cruise around town, hanging out with friends and taking in what San Andreas/Liberty City has to offer.

Great game, played it all the way through and loved every minute of it. Online was actually a lot of fun too.
Did they fix the online? As last I jumped on for a session about 8 months ago the online was completely unplayable.
