03/08/2017 Tokyo, Korakuen Hall results1. Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!, Jimmy K-ness J.K.S., Jimmy Kanda, Shachihoko BOY def Yosuke♡Santa Maria, Yuki Yoshioka, Katsumi Takashima, Draztik Boy (K-ness pinned Santa Maria with the Hikari no Wa) *Hollywood Stalker Ichikawa came out with a ladder and requested the next match now be a ladder match.2a. “Hollywood” Stalker Ichikawa 2017 Tokyo Finale Ladder Match: Don Fujii def “Hollywood” Stalker Ichikawa (Fujii pinned Ichikawa with an elbow drop in about 15 seconds. The ladder was never used.) *post match; Ichikawa appealed for a reamtch but was silenced by the next match music, the announcer introducing the next match, and Jimmy Kagetora coming out. Ichikawa was able to convince Kagetora to go to the back, and called Fujii out for an immediate rematch.2b. “Hollywood” Stalker Ichikawa 2017 Tokyo Finale Ladder Match: Don Fujii def “Hollywood” Stalker Ichikawa (Fujii pinned Ichikawa after landing on Ichikawa after a failed Ina Bauer German Suplex. Once again the ladder was never used.) *post match; Fujii dropped the ladder on Ichikawa and in classic Don Fujii style, threw a water bottle at him.3. Jimmy Kagetora def Ben-K (Kagetora pinned Ben-K with the Gurumakakari) 4. Kzy, Flamita def Jimmy Susumu, Ryo “Jimmy” Saito (Kzy pinned Saito with the Impact) *post match Kzy asked Yuki Yoshioka and Katsumi Takashima to join him n the ring. A triangle match was set up between them and the Jimmyz team of Kagetora, Kanda, and K-ness for the next Korakuen Hall show.5. YAMATO, BxB Hulk def Masaaki Mochizuki, Big R Shimizu (Hulk pinned Shimizu with the First Flash) 6. Over Generation with Doi vs. Verserk Headhunting Match: CIMA, Dragon Kid, Eita, Takehiro Yamamura, Naruki Doi def Shingo Takagi, T-Hawk, Cyber Kong, El Lindaman, Punch Tominaga *The winning team will earn the right to recruit away a member of the losing team(Yamamura pinned Tominaga following a Stardust Press) *post match; OG recruited Mondai Ryu. CIMA explained that the reason for this was that Ryu had suffered a cervical hernia, and he wanted to support him in his recovery. Ryu admitted he'd considered retirement following the injury last year, but becoming an uncle had given him resolve to get back in the ring. Following some heated exchanges in and after the match, T-Hawk and Yamamura agreed to a future singles match. I believe another match was agreed between Osaka06 and Lindaman/Tominaga.

In addition, following Korakuen, CIMA hurt his right knee, and Kagetora has pain down the left side of his body. Both are being removed from the next show this week as a precaution.
In related news, Dragon Gate in 2017 continues to be cursed.

Since the last Korakuen show some stuff has happened. Following Eita being stripped of the Brave Gate title earlier this month, a torunament was held at Memorial Gate to determine a new holder. Participants included: Eita, El Lindaman, Kzy, Jimmy Kagetora, Takahiro Yamamura, Yosuke♡Santa Maria, Punch Tominaga, and DTU's Draztik Boy. Jimmy Kagetora defeated El Lindaman in the finals to claim the title for the first time. Also at Memorial Gate, Naruki Doi, Big R Shimizu and Ben-K defeated the VerserK team of Shingo Takagi, "brother" YASSHI, and T-Hawk to claim the vacant Triangle Gate titles. The belts had been held by Takagi, T-Hawk, and Cyber Kong, but a minor arm injury to Kong a day prior took him out of the match, forcing VeserK to forfeit the titles. With the Dead or Alive PPV coming up in May, discussions about the annual DoA Cage match began. YAMATO announced that he would be taking part and would be putting up his Dream Gate title in the match. Other participants announced so far include Shingo Takagi, BxB Hulk, Cyber Kong, and Naruki Doi. As to the rules regarding the match this year, nothing has been clarified yet. But we do know that with the exception of YAMATO, the other competitors will put up their hair, or in Cyber Kong's case, mask as usual should they lose the match. CIMA and Dragon Kid have agreed to a Twin Gate title defence against the Jimmyz team of K-ness and Kanda for Hakata Star Lanes on April 23rd. ~ The upcoming Korakuen show will take place April 7th, and will air live on [url=https://secure.live.nicovideo.jp/product/3871[/url] as usual. Beginners guide on how to purchase iPPVs through NicoNico. It will feature the newly crowned Open the Triangle Gate champions of Doi/Shimizu/K defending their titles against the Jimmyz. Ever since winning the belts, the new champion trio have been unsuccessful in winning any matches of note. This includes a straight up non-title six man tag match loss against the VerserK power team of Takagi/T-Hawk/Lindaman. They seek to change their tides by overcoming the veteran Jimmyz team. But despite their relative size advantage against their opponents, winning will be no small feat. Unless Team Doi can iron out the wrinkles in their united cohesion and effectiveness, they may be in for a very brief reign. Also on the show is the grudge match between Takahrio Yamamura and T-Hawk. A feud that developed during last months Korakuen main event, with the two trading heated blows during and after the match. Yamamura is currently on the hottest streak in his relatively short career. Last month he won the match in the Over Generation/VerserK eight man tag, but now has to go it alone against a man who has been on a strong run ever since joining VerserK. T-Hawk has been on a tear recently downing more opponents with his Night Ride finisher than many would like to admit. Despite the fiery determination shown in his opponent, T-Hawk's size advantage and experience may be all the edge he needs to put quench his flame. Osaka06 will reunite for the first time since Gamma's arm injury a few months ago. El Lindaman and Punch Tominaga goaded them into the match after accusing CIMA of being a bad mentor during their time in OVER GENERATION. As of now it's unknown how far Gamma's recovery has progressed. This could cause problems for him with VerserK's penchant for weapons use, and Lindaman's oft used cross armbreaker. While neither half of Osaka06 would want to let VerserK get one over on them, they may also consider walking out with both of Gamma's arms in place a victory in itself. Finally in another match set up at last months show, Kzy will align with two of the newest members of the DG roster to face Jimmyz Kanda, K-ness, and Kagetora. It started after Kzy accused the Jimmyz of being complacent, comparing their relative comfort to the fiery determination of the younger generation. Naturally the Jimmyz took offence, and promised to show these young punks what they were capable of.

04/07/2017, Tokyo, Korakuen Hall Results1. Masaaki Mochizuki, BxB Hulk, Shachihoko BOY, Flamita def Don Fujii, Dragon Kid, Eita, Draztick Boy - Flamita pinned Boy with the Flam Fly2. Jimmy K-ness J.K.S., Jimmy Kanda, Jimmy Kagetora def Kzy, Yuki Yoshioka, Katsumi Takashima - Kagetora pinned one of the rookies after bitch slapping them to hell.3. CIMA, Gamma def El Lindaman, Punch Tominaga - Osaka06 were accompanied by OVER GENERATION's newest member: Mondai Ryu. During the match he was attacked and unmasked by the VerserK team. He returned late in the match with a new mask and threw salt into Tominaga's face leading to the victory.- Gamma submitted Tominaga with a Boston Crab.4. T-Hawk def Takehiro Yamamura - T-Hawk pinned Yamamura with the Night Ride. - Post match T-Hawk name dropped Ben-K for something, I'm guessing a future match(?). - Great match. It cannot be overstated how on fire Yamamura has been this year. Dragon Gate in turn has done everything right by him. Also props to T-Hawk. He's been a guy I've largely not cared about in recent months, but he's been a great foil to the plucky babyface. It never really occurred to me that this mini feud might have done as much for him as it has for his opponent.- Following the intermission they announced the 2017 King of Gate partcipants and brackets. 5. Shingo Takagi, Cyber Kong def YAMATO, Yosuke♡Santa Maria - Takagi pinned YAMATO after blocking the Frankensteiner of the Almighty and crucifix pinning him. - After being on the receiving end of two errant Pineapple Bombers from Kong, Takagi wasn't pleased with his stablemate. They along with YAMATO and BxB Hulk verbally sparred following the match heading into their Dead or Alive cage match next month. In related news, Hulk still f***ing hates Takagi.6. Open the Triangle Gate Championship Match: Naruki Doi, Big R Shimizu, Ben-K def Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!, Jimmy Susumu, Ryo “Jimmy” Saito - Doi pinned Horiguchi with the Bakatare Sliding Kick - Really fun match to close the show. - Following a post-match Doi promo, Masato Yoshino came out. He and Doi did their usual chummy closing show routine, and I believe Yoshino mentioned them forming a unit. This was probably the most fun Korakuen show we've had in a while. Dragon Gate has felt like it was in somewhat of a funk in the recent few months, but this along with last months Korakuen show have really seemed to put them back on track. It doesn't feel as if the company is as stuck in a holding pattern as it did before. Not only are we getting fresher match ups, but the story progression feels more organic and focused. With Dead or Alive, King of Gate, and Kobe World on the horizon, things are looking up again.

Been using the Real Hero archive to watch Dragon Gate this year. I dig it and it reminded me of why they stood out when they worked ROH shows over a decade ago. My first live ROH show actually had CIMA, Shingo and Dragon Kid on it. I've enjoyed getting back into it. Yamamura, Shingo, Big R Shimizu and Eita are guys that stand out right now.

Dead or Alive will air live this week on Nico Nico. Beginners guide on how to purchase iPPVs through NicoNico. The main angle going into this show is the annual Dead or Alive five way steel cage match. The biggest difference is that YAMATO's Open the Dream Gate Title will be on the line. The match will either end with one of the challengers losing their respective mask or hair, or YAMATO losing both the title and his hair. Along with that, CK-1 (CIMA and Dragon Kid) will be defending their Open the Twin Gate titles against VerserK's T-Hawk and El Lindaman, and Jimmy Kagetora will defend the Open the Brave Gate title against Takahiro Yamamura. The rest of the card hasn't been revealed yet, but we can assume around 3 or 4 more matches to be added. 05/05/2017 Aichi, Aichi Prefectural Gym Dead or Alive 2017-Open the Brave Gate Championship Match: Jimmy Kagetora vs. Takehiro Yamamura-Open the Twin Gate Championship Match: CIMA, Dragon Kid vs. T-Hawk, El Lindaman-Open the Dream Gate Dead or Alive Mask vs. Hair 5 Way Steel Cage Match: YAMATO vs. Naruki Doi vs. BxB Hulk vs. Shingo Takagi vs. Cyber Kong~ Also of note Masato Yoshino defied all expectations and returned from his spinal injury he suffered earlier this year on the April 23rd show to squash Punch Tominaga in two minutes. To what means for his 2017 is probably still somewhat up in the air, but it's very reassuring to see him able to perform to some degree. Finally, Dragon Gate records released the themes on the upcoming TRIBE VANGUARD CD on iTunes. Tribe Vanguard's updated theme (Blow 'em Away by Jon Underdown) YAMATO's theme (Yamato Spirit by ACMA) BxB Hulk's new theme (BxB Story 2017 by Kzy) Kzy's new theme (Time to Go Crazy (2017 Mix) by Kzy) Yosuke♡Santa Maria's theme (Santa Maria Walk by Yuri Komuro) Flamita's theme (Flam Fly by HIKARI)

No rest for the weary as Dragon Gate is back at Korakuen Hall tomorrow night to head off the 2017 King of Gate. The Takagi/Mochizuki main event is a rematch of their phenomenal 2015 Dream Gate title match. Also Dream Gate champion YAMATO will face off with Eita, CIMA will face his protege Takehiro Yamamura, and bruisers T-Hawk and Ben-K will collide. Along with that MaxiMuM will look to get revenge on the Jimmyz for their actions at Dead or Alive. Will the new unit prove itself not only to the established hand of DG in the Jimmyz, but to themselves as well? Finally Cyber Kong is no more. After losing his mask to YAMATO at Dead or Alive, Takashi Yoshida will now represent VerserK. We might find out what the new face of Cyber Kong bring to Dragon Gate sooner rather than later. Show will air live on NicoNico.

T-Hawk defeated Naruki Doi to win the 2017 King of Gate tournament. YAMATO agreed to a future Open the Dream Gate title match with him at a date to be determined, possibly Kobe World, if they follow last years trend.

So I've been told for a while by a friend that I needed to start watching Dragon Gate. It's pretty intimidating. I watched about 30 minutes of Kobe World and decided I needed to learn a little before tackling that show. So apologies if this has been covered, but what is the best resource for a beginner to use to learn about the promotion? I really want to give it a shot, but it's hard when I have no idea who's who and what the hell is going on.

Jae, who runs the site, has been the best reference for Dragon Gate for a long time. Besides that, the Japanese Wikipedia page is pretty detailed about the companies history, and roster. You just need a translating app for your browser, or Google Chrome. Other than that, I, or anyone else, can try to answer any additional questions you have.
