I was thinking about Ron Reiss earlier and it surprises me that given his size and age that the WWE never gave him a look in the early 2000s, he was only in his very early 30s when WCW folded and they love big guys/giants, no matter how useless, just look at the way they hired the Harris Twins over and over. What other guys that fit the WWF/E mold weren't really given a shot?

Lash LeRoux. He had a unique look, was good in the ring, and would have made a solid job guy for Sunday Night Heat and the like. They hired Hugh Morris and Chavo, so I always found it weird they didn't pick up Lash as well.

They did actually bring him in after the WCW buyout, but left him in developmental until he asked for his release. I always felt Bison Smith fit the bill, but for one reason or another he never got a contract. I know he worked a couple of WWE tryout matches so it wasn't as if he wasn't willing to sign for them, and the company was clearly interested. I would be interested to know what stopped them offering him a deal.

Alex Wright pre- or post-Berlyn versions... I'm surprised trips didn't bring him in during his reign of terror.

He also wrestled TAKA for the Light Heavyweight Title once. Also he was one half of the Los Conquistedores (at least when Edge and Christian were talking to them )

Eric Embry. Always thought he would have been a great mid-card guy in the late 80's. due to his size he would have never been pushed anywhere near the main event but I could see him having a great run with the Heenan Family. Surprised WWF didn't give him a shot around 88-89 to feud with Brutus or Hacksaw.
Gino Hernandez. Had he not passed away I think he would have made it. One of the great tragic stories of wrestling. Tons of potential and I think he would have had a great run. Really surprised WWF never made a play for him in the early 80's.

Norman Smiley as an in ring competitor. I want to say he's done dark matches and house shows before.

Mike Quackenbush. I'm surprised he didn't at least have a dark match.

Muta Gary Hart-Damn near all the great managers had a WWF run, Gary is the biggest one not to have one.

Fairly certain he had some dark match try-outs at one point, but if he did, Wikipedia isn't mentioning it.

Hart was suppose to come in to manage Doink in a Circus ringleader outfit, but he turned them down IIRC

The definitive answer, especially with the NEWZ mentioned back from 1986, was Nikita Koloff. Though I dunno if it would work in the long run as WWF style Russians were played for comedy.
