This cobbled together storyline is making NO sense at all. Why would The Undertaker be willing to wrestle Shane McMahon at Wrestlemania, on behalf of Vince McMahon? What does Shane have on Vince? Why is Triple H cut out of this story?
On another note, Shane was gassed quite badly in the recent workout video he posted to "threaten and intimidate" the Undertaker. He also looked visibly gassed and sweating when he returned a couple of weeks ago.
This entire match is baffling. It makes ZERO sense. Who is the heel? Who is the babyface? I hope the WWE clears this up. In my opinion they are wasting the Undertaker at mania if they actually go ahead with Shane Vs Taker. Shane is at BEST a spot monkey, and that was over 10 years ago. He throws phantom punches that have more air than the Earth has.
This is the first match in a long time that will have Undertaker in better shape than his opponent. If they go ahead with this match, it will be a heavily gimmicked street fight, right? No holds barred, tons of interference from DX and the nWo, all that usual overbooked crap. Blading, etc.

I've been under the impression that Taker has been heel since the last Brock feud, what with the whole Captain Dickpunch routine and all...

Yeah I figured they would have Shane pick someone to wrestle on his behalf but this is just stupid. Nobody wants to see gray-haired Shane vs broken down Taker in a cage, nobody. Dean vs Brock is supposed to be the big kitchen sink match on the card, are they really going to have all the brutal stuff in this match before it? And there's no real conclusion that works--either Shane's whole big return and run at the top of the company gets put down or you have the Undertaker, one of the biggest stars of all time, jobbed out to the boss's non-wrestler son. Yay. Or have some stupid finger poke of doom deal where Undertaker loses on purpose, which would be incredibly dumb also.
I can't see any satisfactory end to a match between Shane and Undertaker straight up. None.

One of the basic rules of booking is that the match needs to make sense, and it's clear to the fans who is the babyface and who is the heel.

I would laugh my as off if they make Undertaker do the job, and only tell him he is jobbing to Shane on the day of Mania.

Why wouldn't he? The Authority hasn't done anything to him at any point - if anything been quite generous to him given they just let him waltz in and have his desired match with Brock with no trouble and themed Survivor Series around him - and he doesn't have anything better going on because he resolved his issue with the Wyatts, Brock's definitely proven he has Taker's number, and he doesn't have a recent beef with anyone besides them. Regardless of Vince's reasons for it or his history with him, it's not different from any other random match Taker could be having really.

I mean..maybe Shane will bring someone in during the match to help him. That's the only way I can see this going that would make sense, and all the training stuff is a ruse. I wonder who it would be if they did that. Some sort of one-off surprise? Maybe Samoa Joe? I seem to recall reading some report(grain of salt I know) that they're going to debut him after wrestlemania. Maybe they'll debut him during Wrestlemania as Shane's ace up his sleeve? I don't know.

It's probably going to be Steve Austin, or possibly Kurt Angle.

Austin is a decent bet. I doubt they will ever allow Angle to take part in any in-ring action.

I think they are still trying to see if Cena can glue his body back together in time to take Shane's place. If not, then I guess we get Shane with a lot of outside help.

Taker don't give a f***. He kicks ass, takes souls, catches bodies. That's what he does. If Vince is really that much of a dillhole that he's willing to put his son in the line of fire, Taker has no problem being the executioner because he doesn't care about anybody involved. He's become the hangman of WWE. He doesn't care what you did, he just wants to be the one to end you.
At least, that's how I make sense of it.

I hope they address this within the feud. The main thing is the face/heel situation, it's not making any sense yet. They've got 5 weeks or so though.

Starting to think we're getting Taker/Cena in the cell for control of WWE.

Taker just DGAF. Which is fine.
Kill my boss' son in HiaC? Whatever. I was gonna kill *somebody's* son at Mania. Never cared much for the details.

I'm telling you. If they do a new blood type angle instead of an ill-advised "basically two guys who should be retired" match, it would be at least somewhat more interesting if not just as nonsensical.

...because we don't need another "random undertaker challenge" or "random beat up and destroy taker feud".
This is flat out simple booking logic: the owner of WWE wants him to wrestle, so he's doing it.
